Do I need to be ready tomorrow for the call? Which team is next?

The U.S. reorg and layoffs are coming - 27, 28, 29 of April. They are not exempt from downsizing. It just makes sense to start in Calgary with the top down reorganization.
The Calgary SCM team collectively has been large but weak for a long time. In comparison to any other oil company I’ve worked for, it is by far the weakest in terms of contracting, risk management, and cost mitigations. With having done consulting at the sites, they are doing the supplier development, optimization and true vendor management. So if they are cutting from the Calgary team I would agree with that. Put more resources at the large operations/sites with hundreds of service workers that need to be managed. That’s where you will find the return on the investment in a procurement person.
So when do the U.S. layoffs start? Why is it Calgary only when the U.S. is dragging the company down?
Do not sit and wait to be let go. If you are U.S. based, you are not getting any significant package. Likely a few weeks of pay. In Canada, the market for a job is worst it’s been in decades. So you need to be proactive and start applying for jobs that you actually want. Do not end up in the situation of being desperate post lay off. It is much easier to find a job while you still have one - and statistics show that you are more likely to find a job faster.
The risk that employees who are given fair warning could retaliate or create massive problems before they are let go is too much of a risk. At Cenovus, leaders protect themselves first.
Yes more layoffs and reorgs are happening and will be happening for the next few months. The VPs should be sending and email to all employees in the area being reorg’d. This will be followed by specific impact to teams sent by Director/Sr. Managers. After that, your direct manager and HR leader will execute layoffs at the site you sit at. There are layers on an org chart so you can’t do it all at once. Any new leaders can decide to reorg their area again after they as--s how it is working now. That’s the word “optimize”. This can mean layoff, outsource, eliminate, move, etc. There’s no point in time when you are “done”. But CVE does need to cut substantially due to financial reasons so they have to optimize massively.
Basically they took two SCM managers and had them switch jobs. Laid off 5 unnamed people. Gave another random guy responsibility for 30 people in an area he will know nothing about. Forgot a few people on the new org chart, gave a few people new titles, bosses and jobs without telling them. Couldn’t answer most questions as to why they are doing it. Probably the most botched attempt at a departmental reorg I have ever witnessed. They need new blood. The Chinese fire drill approach won’t net new results.
half a dozen SCM staff went today.... brutal
No just the usual crying chicken little.
Ex-employee here.
Are there really layoffs going on or are these just trolls. Have there been any bigger town hall announcements or are they just smaller focused reductions.
Trolls need not reply.
heard that some SCM folks from Calgary were laid off today
