I am sure this would have happend to many of you - I have been pressured to take on additional workload left behind by two headcounts they removed as part of Next. I feel strongly about asking for a raise but at the same time wonder if it is a naive move and they will just decline or even put me on the next layoff list. Has anyone had success asking for a raise?

Provide a copy of your current responsibilities and then include one with the proposed new additions and ask your manager to have HR evaluate it
If you tell your manager that you want a raise due to interest by another company they will ask for an offer letter for your manager to get you a raise mid-year so be ready for that.
I relentlessly ask for rises and I get one every 2 / 3 years (I'm not overpaid though, because the vast majority of my career progression was inside AIG; but I'm paid slightly more then most of my colleagues). It depends on how much they need you, how much your boss loves you, how many competitors you have in your position, and how adamant you are in asking for a rise or a promotion (provided that, obviously, you are very good at what you do). I can tell you something for sure though, if you don't ask for anything they will likely not give you anything, even if you are above and beyond . If you still ask rises and they give you nothing for years, it is very likely that you have been flagged as "expandable" ... And potential material for future layoffs
It is very unlikely that you'll get your raise. However, there is a workaround you can consider trying. Tell your manager you are thinking about leaving due to the salary. This approach has had very good results here in claims.
Getting a raise outside of the usual review period of December- March for a current employee is not something I have heard of unless you have another offer and they want to retain you.
I asked my manager for a raise and I worked my a-s off. They said we got to wait and see then when bonus time came around they told me we’ll do to the current financials of the company we cannot do that at the moment so it depends on your manager.
or just do what you can each day. no more no less. If you cared more you would do more.
I think it depends on the manager. My manager literally has let great people go because they wouldn't give them a raise, but an adjacent team gets raises and promotions right and left.
100%. I asked for a raise twice and both times I got it. You just need to focus on the why and not claim it’s because of cost of living.
