Electronic goods will have higher tariff target in a different bucket for 50% or more.

Trump stated that the semi & electronics tariff will start in a week or two, a shorter timeframe than provided by Lutnick.

Also that it would start at 25% and escalate over the next year. Shifting supply chains will take time and 25% is something but not too dramatic.

Keep in mind that tariffs are being applied to producer prices, not the retail cost.

@ap+1jrnkegeb As with many global companies, Intel makes chips in many countries, and some of the newest chips are made by TSMC.

All these companies are likely to start man-splaining how tariffs affect their business and what changes they will make.

The only semi related tariff which will cause an actual shift in production is the one which will be released in a month or two, after earnings season.

That one is expected to be more resistant to negotiation, as it is intended to shift high end electronic production back to the US.

That is what is driving TSMC to increase US investment and be involved in any way with a Intel JV. That JV apparently will just include a few EUV fabs.

Intel is likely to divest all the non-EUV fabs, regardless of tariffs. Tariffs might increase the value of those older fabs.

@aw, we've been expecting layoffs for years. Are you familiar with the saying "a broken clock is right twice a day?" It essentially means people like constantly saying "the layoffs are coming! The layoffs are coming!" Will eventually be right once in a while because layoffs are inevitable. It doesn't make you smart because you said it, it just means you're wrong more than you're right.

Wake me when there’s no tariff on ASML EUV steppers. Until such time Trump is crippling US semiconductors not helping us

The "wolf is coming" can happen 3 times, but not always. Trump can not use bully art to scam the world in long term.

The tariff structure is being refined. Lutnick stated that the semi tariffs will be out in about a month, which may be a combination of waiting for earnings season to be done and also to let the existing tariff issues with a lot of countries have some time to be resolved.

Every time anything changes with tariffs the media works on the assumption that the President has somehow 'blinked' or is failing, but in reality the way he is rolling this out is right from his 'Art of the Deal' book. That is right from the Roy Cohn playbook.

Front load with the maximum pressure, to get the other party motivated. Then provide some form of concession (for a limited time only) to further motivate the other party.

Reality is that if this were handled by the usual diplomacy, nothing would be achieved. That's because the rest of the world benefits from the situation. What is being done is the only way to motivate other countries to actually do a deal and not just talk about it.

Semi and electronics tariffs are coming and will not be up for negotiation, because the goal is to reshore those and not trade away that capability as part of some deal.

They are already backpedaling on the "no tariffs for electronics" announcement.

If he sign executive orders to create tariffs, why he can't he sign an executive order to cut our federal income tax by half? Do it and let congress fight over whether it's legal.

Hahaha … China will make more than 100% tariffs on chips fab by US which is sh---y Intel. Anywhere else in the world are free of tariffs. Expect massive layoff coming in the US for Intel employees. What you hate will dump the shi t onto your heads later.

China says it’s where the wafer originated , so if it’s originated in US, it will be considered for tariff. Would recommmend reading news, china will punish all US industries now and intel is one of them , already in bad state and will be hit a lot with this tariff from china.

Mo--n

We make chips in Ireland, Israel, USA

And package in SE ASIA anyway

Just ship from lesser tariff locations

It’s the product not the company

It won’t. Unless 18a succeeds and we have good AI story.
Also didn’t you read the news that china will be imposing tariffs on semiconductor chips made in US, this will hurt intel further , AMd is all ok bc their chips are made in Taiwan.
