Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Feeling abandoned

Cisco colleagues, I'm curious if anyone has navigated a similar situation.

I was hired in the US on an F1 visa, which has since expired. I opted for a relocation to Canada, offered by Cisco. Now, I'm pondering the feasibility of a future return to the US, especially considering the compensation difference in CAD.

Part of me thinks it's time to fully embrace Canada and pursue PR, while still holding onto hope for a potential US opportunity down the line.

Has anyone experienced this, and what were your thoughts?

Re: “ people like you that took away american jobs.”

Took? You mean American companies in their greed to underpay for labor HIRED cheaper labor.

But go ahead and hate on each other while the billionaires laugh at you as you fail to hold the ones pulling the strings accountable. The brainwash is too easy

You can go back to India...

I worked with people from countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, so I wouldn't blindly assume anyone who might make this post would be from India.

Many American employees were laid off to keep your job.

You can go back to India since many US companies love to outsource everything here and hire in Asia.

Not enough jobs here bro !

Let in mainly takers that want nothing but to milk the system however it can be done, not to assimilate. Let in mainly people who pay full freight, often to get a graduate level degree few American companies value.

FTFY.

Student visas are a bigger racket that the H1B visas. Let in mainly takers that want nothing but to milk the system however it can be done, not to assimilate.

Since you are in Canada, if you listen to enough Nickleback; it can be very depressing.

go to your own country start a business and improve it there for the better. Then you wont have to travel the world for jobs US and Canadian citizens coming out of college should be working.

hold on, how does Cisco "offer you relocation to Canada" ?

it sounds like you are just on the equivalent of a tourist visa now

best of luck to you, but you are basically in limbo, one of the many thousands brought over to the US to toil away for a period of time before being tossed back

If your org supports relocation, initiate the process ASAP. Try L1 visa route instead of H1B lotteries. you are eligible for L1 after completing 1 year. Chasing canadian PR does not get you anywhere (i did that, regret the decision every single day). Cisco is very dynamic, when it comes to your job. Its better to initiate the discussion for relocation with your manager to get an idea about your real options. If they are willing, just move ahead with internal approvals etc. and move back once you are past 1 year.
PS- you can separately pursue the PR path on your own through Express Entry (Canadian Experience Class)

This should be fun....You're not going to get much help here asking how to navigate intricacies of student F-1 visas, their expiration, and employment options.

But just so I understand...you got a student F-1 visa, went to school in the US, got a job at Cisco, now your student visa is expired and Cisco can't legally employee you, and is suggesting that you try Canada...and you feel abandoned? Isn't this how student visas are supposed to work? Your student visa doesn't entitle you to stay in the US forever.

If you don’t own a home in Canada you are sc--wed already. Low compensation but high cost of living. Keep trying for the US if you can.
