That’s when General Motors announced the last massive layoff.

GM only lays off around Christmas time for the most part. It's about the most certainty within it's culture you can bet on. It's the greatest disappointment for most given the timeframe, so it simply makes sense for them to do this.
If you aren't laid off this year, stay tuned until the next.
As a 20 year GM vet, it's the very single reason I never promoted, or bought a GM vehicle within my lifetime. They have no heart as they discard employees like trash.
They treat their contract personnel even worse.
Maybe it’s because General Motors created severe hardship in their lives.
People upvote equally untrustworthy claims saying there will be layoffs.
“Why on earth would someone down vote confirmation that there will be no layoffs?”
It is a completely untrustworthy claim.
Are people disappearing now? Is there another silent layoff happening?
The last big public layoff was in February, but the whole year before that they were silently laying off 10% department by department. A few people here and there. No announcements, you just noticed that people suddenly disappeared.
Why on earth would someone down vote confirmation that there will be no layoffs?
Be careful of what you wish for!
Last time the layoff actually happened in February.
Can confirm no layoffs this year.
But the topic is not incorrect either.
Most layoffs coincide with Christmas, and as long as after the two week shutdown. How do I know? As contract, I've always been a multiple candidate for their career beat down. Yet, I always went back for more. Until, I didn't. Best move I've ever made.
This is the most pathetic troll I've seen here.
