Yeah, I have been thinking the same about Fab9, what would be its ultimate destiny? Not sure if it is worth moving to that area even with a decent offer if the future of this site is unclear.
Now the big layoff in April makes sense. I’m sure we need to be down to a certain headcount
Fab 9 has a certain protection. The entire place underneath...and it is massive...20 feet down and a huge map has been ruined via new since green laws. The only reason IBM dumped it was they didn't want to be responsible for the cleanup...that cleanup via insane Vermont stuff would ki-l the seller and buyer. There is NO way to get out of there at fab 9 for Global really. So they are going to have to keep the place going. They would literally have to nuke the place and then dig down 50 yards and get rid of the dirt to even move on. The entire place from IBM to now is toxic and if you think the deal Vermont let them take will be ok you are nuts...just go take a look at Yankee nuke stuff...Global bought the worst place in the entire us via politics and is going to pay for it.

I was thinking the same thing about fab 9. Is there anything that needs to be manufactured there that could be outsourced? They pay so little there it’s like working in a third world country. They might be moving work there because labor is so cheap.
I' be really nervous if I worked at fab 9.
Fab 8 has potential to upgrade to produce smaller nodes, assuming they get the talent to do so. Also the DOD trusted fab status provides some security.
