The manager in my store assures us that everything is getting better, that the first signs of recovery will soon be seen and things like that. How to explain this other than that he is detached from reality? I can't tell whether this amount of optimism is funny or if it's actually sad...

There's a difference between not mentioning bad news at work and misleading people intentionally. I don't know what your manager is doing. Either he is really stupid or he is evil in his deception. Neither is a solid character.
Pay no attention. Nod & smile.
Copy paste SM that’s all they are telling you. Don’t be fooled by the fake smile that they give. All is last minute with all these store closings…I was fooled too- but had the knowledge to know better and got out just in time.
The grass is greener on the other side. No more worrying if my store is closing- which it is-no more worrying about how many hrs they are going to give me this week, no more watching everyone else leave and not me. I bounced!!!
Get out while you can. And you will feel much better after
Lemmings get a bad rap. It was Disney who threw them off the cliff, btw: they do not go on their own. Unlike most duped managers.
So what do you want your manager to say? Staffing my store is hard enough, telling everyone the obvious really wont help any. If people aren't smart enough to get out on their own, I am not going to help them.
Everything was down all day including the phones. Couldn’t do bopus, cds, tbs and welcome rewards +. Not a good sign that they can’t figure out how to fix .
When today you report you sold more stock for $170 million cap AND you are forced to disclose a Data breach that could cause millions in penalties….
Yeah there’s no optimism. I’m taking time to regroup my life now that I’m gone. I’m fairly assured I will at least have a better outlook next year than this company will.
Managers have been so brainwashed by corporate, they no longer know the truth from a lie. Bunch of lemmings!
