Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Is Geo-blocking a sign of a layoff?

I noticed that our work management system, was suddenly blocked unless using a VPN in other region. Even the company’s main public website is inaccessible from our region but works fine in other locations. Only our region is impacted.

By the end of the week, our office completely lost external network access. Our local IT team was unaware of any planned changes and had to escalate the issue. Eventually, access was restored, but the work management system and company website remain blocked. No official announcements have been made by management or IT.

Some key details: • This happened right after our quarterly performance review. • Our direct manager is on leave until next week. • We filed a ticket to our IT support regarding our work management system and they told us they are unsure why. • The company recently announced cost-cutting measures after a major acquisition.

Emails and Teams are still working.

Has anyone experienced something similar before a layoff? Could this be an IT misconfiguration, or is it a sign of restructuring.

Think of it as IBM's (Alvind's) sneaky and devious way of telling you that it is time to pack up your bags and job and head for the hills ....but don't let the door hit you on the way out.

IBM did this in China over 6 months ago (not over a month ago - a bigger wave) ; workers were blocked from systems late on Friday, the news came later. Everyone was laid off.
