Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Give us some good managers!

I’m so over the endless layers of clueless management who think leadership means just barking orders. Some people get a whiff of authority and suddenly treat everyone like disposable garbage. This place’s culture is beyond toxic and soul-crushing. Just needed to vent before I completely lose it.

@r7+1jqcq6yqt Well said. There is no joy in working for or with people who think more about themselves than leading and serving the team and tackling real world business challenges.

This is happening at EM and we’ve lost and are losing good people because of it: https://hbr.org/2025/03/when-another-senior-leader-is-threatening-your-reputation?tpcc=orgsocial_edit&utm_campaign=hbr&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin

That ship has sailed my friend!

The culture of rewarding bad behaviorial traits that come naturally to technically and intellectually incompetent personals has existed for a good part of decade+.

It is now impossible to get intelligent, and truly competent-in-work people to become managers or leaders as top competent people have values and they believe in focusing on the work. What you are left with is riding the yes sir wave managers. The good ones with potential, right attitude and astute moral and technical compass have long left!

Simply look at the LCS management or as a matter of fact any other part of the organization. What you will see is an obviously pathetic display of fake leadership. Just go on Linked in and see their posts and the hoards of brown nosers who quickly like them (always the same set of pathetic people with their fingers ready on the like button to gain attention of equally pathetic managers). If you are smart, all you can do is to take notes of these bad individuals so you are at least prepared to save yourself from the backstabbers.

Yes they get mad with power and treat everyone like s hit. The arrogance is extreme. We are like ants to them. I have never been treated so bad or disrespectful in my life. The supervisor tried to intimidate me and scare me into submission. They did not know I was NRE as I look younger than I am. I challenged the criticism and told them it would not work on me. My supervisor is all for themselves and will fire or move employees at will. There is no real caring or feeling behind their actions. Upper management lets these animals run wild and uncontrolled.

They're not managers, they are 'our leaders'.

If they are my leaders, how come I had no input to selecting them, and I have no input on their performance rating?

This company is so broken. It's culturally bankrupt.
