That's because they aren't really increased sales, but sales that would have happened anyway shifted early to beat the tariffs.

It will be interesting to see how far GM stock drops Wednesday in anticipation of the tariff announcement and on Thursday morning when the fever panic sets in.

It was $52.59 on 3/25 and is now $47.22 4/1.
Prediction: A 7% loss over Wed/Thursday, bringing it down around $44/share.
It has dipped as low as $26/share in the last couple years so it's not difficult to imagine it returns to this in the near future.

Putting it in perspective: In the meantime, customers are panic-buying GM cars before the tariff. Sales are up 17%. So all of this could be a nothing-burger when it's all said and done. Also, orange guy is likely to wave his golden hand and take away the auto tariffs after some kind of magical deal. ;) (EXTREMELY LIKELY)

PS Sales are up 17% and the stock only rose by .09 cents? Huh.

Karma, that’s why. The board has been feeding from the trough too long and now needs to own their short sightedness. First step imo is firing MB and the rest of the woke SLT.

I commute from Windsor, so I believe they have to pay me 25% more.

“ Maybe because GM makes 82% of their cars OUTSIDE the US?”

And this is for vehicles SOLD here in the US.

The day of reckoning is here. Build cheap azz disposable vehicles on paltry labor and still sell them at an exorbitant amount. Greeedy shareholder board. For shame

Because they moved as much out of the country to make more money to pad their investor's pockets. While in meetings there in the past, all I heard was, "Why can't we build that in China and ship it back here"? But those savings were never filtered down to the consumer, just added to the record profits and 140% EVPs. Now, it will hurt them.
