What we're seeing is just like the 60's and pre-embargo 70's when oil was $2/bbl (inflation corrected to $20/bbl today). Geologists in Houston drove taxis as a 2nd income. Pay for petrotechs and engineers was on par with what teachers and mailmen were earning. Pay raises (even in hyper-inflation 70's) were miniscule. Career advancement potential was virtually zero. Fast-forward to today, even $75 oil is not going to sustain companies outside of NOCs in the future.
And the children of the executives. We still have a lot of them.
The only people that have a chance of getting promoted into management positions in the "New Chevron" are Indians. The ENGINE has been built with a new direct line into Chevron management. The previous management teams will be carefully gleaned out over time.
Short term goal: ferret out anyone who might be sniffing around and showing interest in my job and start rumors about them.
Long term goal: find a job with a non publicly traded company that cares only about investors
