The surprising truth about low performers

Cracking down on “low performers” in the workplace will backfire. Numerous companies, from Meta to Microsoft, have been sending a message to their staff: raise your performance or get laid off. While it sounds like CEOs are just promoting meritocracy, the use of “te---r as a motivation” almost never works. For one thing, it “comes at the expense of quality” as workers rush to avoid the axe. “What’s more, work in the performance pressure cooker becomes less innovative” because insecure workers are less willing to take chances. In addition, “making employees fear for their job security” causes them to flee, and it tends to be the higher performers - the ones with the most options, that head out first.

European sites are for sale so what does that tell you?

This is the American way, I don't understand why campus and US sites are complaining. We do not have this type of corporate culture in Europe, but we're now polluted with it in Exxon and have to put up with it. This is legitimate complaint because it's not our employment culture but as Americans, this is the Dream, isn't it?

You should see all the scared shaking employees. They are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Lots of mistakes and safety incidents. With all the rushing and attention to kissing a the data is cr-p Some employees are literally shaking with fear. The supers love it as their fear tactics works on the young. Look at the faces of the young ones with mortgages, expensive cars, and little children and you will see fear and hopelessness. Look at myself and others that are older with money in the bank, everything paid off and ready to retire and will see peace and calmness. The threats only work on the young and d-mb. I really feel bad for these young people as they are slaves to exxon. These young ones are not to be trusted because they are scared and will do anything to stay alive in this hunger game. They youngsters tried to make me look bad but it does not mater because I am RE and ready to leave. Fear and
intimidation will never win. Remember it is not a meritocracy exon is a mediocrity. The meek shall inherit exxon and they can have it.

I am labeled as a poor performer this year by exxon. I did good work but did not kiss a-s. I had no motivation to do any more than I did. I was not given a raise, everything I did was criticized and the employees were not helpful and stabbed me in the back. Exxon cannot motivate me at this point and they can only demotivate me. I am at the end of the line and my career is over. I am only waiting for the pip or till I am ready to retire. Funny thing about being an exxon low performer is that it does not matter to other companies. I am being sought after by service companies who want me to do the work for them. I have several contacts who are just waiting for me to retire. So exxon you can call me a low performer and I will be a high performer for some other company. Do not believe the BS because I have seen some truly worthless, no talent or knowledgeable employees touted as hipos. It is all a game and it is unfair. Do not let exxon rule your life their assessment of you is not realistic and is biased and flawed. F uc exxon and their corrupt, fixed in crowd ranking system. Exxon's flawed ranking system is based on a ss kissing, lying , towing the company line, being a yes person, and perception. Real work or accomplishment are not needed or considered in the ranking. How well you are liked and how you kiss up to the bosses is all that maters. Once you realize and accept this truth you will not care anymore and you can enjoy your life. Exxon has ruined past employees lives and destroyed them. It was not exxon but the employees that believed the lies and that they were worthless. Remember one companies trash is another's gold and diamonds. The ranking cycle is coming and if you are not a hipo be ready for a drop.

It would be amazing if after the PIPs are decided this year, the Supervisors with the most PIP’d direct reports got PIP’d for providing poor leadership!

Also, if any Supervisors found to have PIP’d truly productive employees for personal or political reasons, automatic PIP award for themselves.

Sorry, don’t have an account to BI, but that looks like a very insightful article, from what I could see!

Damn managers and their stupid “low performer” BS. 😡

Hope it backfires on them.
