What are your thoughts on the best alternatives? From what I'm seeing, the entire sector is in trouble, so there aren't that many options left. Which, sadly, makes the coming layoffs even scarier, in my opinion.

Apply to a hedge fund or market maker/HFT trader like Citadel.
There are 600+ hedge funds in Connecticut only.
Morgan Stanley's IT is a backwards IT department full of talkers compared to these.
Will be earning times more vs Morgan Stanley.
I am in tech for me I will go back to the tech oriented companies, but not FAANG since I want advacement and friendly PTO. Microsoft scares the cr-p out of me saying no severance due to performance, but we all know that is a word and manipulative.
