Thread regarding Morgan Stanley layoffs

Possible Date is March 26th

Whatever happens I say thank you Morgan Stanley for hiring me during the pandemic where my college friends had trouble finding jobs. My financial situation so much better than my college peers since it took them over a year to find a job since their jobs were rescinded. Well I cheated a little since I went to Etrade then it got merged.

If I don't get laid off then I will continue in finding a new job after doing some interviews and waiting to hear back from them since morale has been damaged for me. Too much manager change and reorg is never good.

The New York bosses are at the Ohio facility on Monday. There's a networking meeting on Wednesday. It's not looking good that they're here two days early.

Is it possible that we don’t get any severance if the layoff is based on poor performance?

Remember before you go to HR to get fired you loose all access. So exchange emails and phones with colleagues before this event.

Performance is just a word. I worked the same amount (even lesser) last yr and got a good bonus. This yr I worked more and got nothing with Needs improvement label.

When they decide to layoff, they say performance is bad.

I wonder if the high rate of negative feedback on the 360 last year is causing this layoffs to be more performanced based than before.

My ED was telling what happen since I barely talk to her and was surprised to see a low score in my 360 since I have meet expectations years prior. Either way this will damage MS reputation if they pull a Microsoft. I will now consider if they give a severance during layoffs as a factor in deciding jobs.

Severance will include a paid notice period (required by law based), the remainder of of the severance pay is based on your length of service. The notice period varies based on officer title since some employees are contractually obligated to give 60, 90 day and 120 day notice with their resignations. The performance based comment is interesting considering expectations have been raised and departments are running with razor thin staff given this is the third consecutive year of layoffs.

Since this mentions layoffs due to performance, would the laid off employee get some buffer time I.e 30 days on payroll as inactive employee?

We don't count. We're a number and a political Ally. Be one, be none.

It may be a coincidence, but my Tuesday calendar is absolutely empty, as if everyone cleared their calendar.

In my many years at the Firm, lay-offs are always on a Wednesday.

Friday is my last day here so hopefully my leaving saves a position for someone else.
