It comes down to your employment contract with IBM and in particular the termination related language. It has little to do with where you are located. If you are in a country with stronger employment laws, like Canada, France, Germany then it doesn't block IBM from getting rid of you - but it will cost them more in severance but technically those in the US make more than those in other countries so it evens out in the wash after years of service.

The whole Canadians not getting fired is simply not true, Covid years aside, there have been layoffs every year. Same as the myth about Canadians getting loads of money when lay offs occur. Most employers including IBM will give you 2 weeks per year of work to a max of 12 (sometimes 16) weeks. This is not that different from the 60/90 days you hear from IBMers dismissed in the US. The stories you hear of guys getting years worth of paychecks, are always after long legal battles (and split with lawyers). Almost always around ppl claiming disabilities or ppl let go when close to retirement age.

Canadians hardly ever get fired, even for poor performance never mind RAs. We had a guy on our team who was on PIP for over 2 years. He eventually left on his own terms.

No site is safe from RAs. Some countries labor laws are more difficult to deal with however IBM still does RAs. Safest from closure is going to be sites like SVL, Toronto, Kochi, Krakow ... basically any site that is on the strategic sites list.

the janitors of course will be safe

There were cutbacks in this years ago in previous rounds .. stuff cleaned weekly instead of daily, etc.

Except when executives visited of course - suddenly everything cleaned up.

Austin TX is probably on the decline because Power is on the decline.

Plus, what sane woman or married man would move to Texas these days. It is a dangerous place for a woman that might get pregnant.

@cn+1jpjy4p39 Anything to do with IBM inside the U.S. was doomed long before President Trump came along. You really need to let that TDS go.

Something outside the USA for sure.

Trump has doomed anything in the USA.

NYC, Poughkeepsie, Raleigh, Atlanta, Texas for the most part. I remember when we had offices and desks and chairs and water and copiers and printers. Now; here is your laptop, have a nice day and if you have any questions we have a chat bot for that.

the janitors of course will be safe through the corporate bloodletting - it's their responsibility to take out the trash, clean the toilets etc. etc. So they are a million times more valuable than Alvind, Krabanaugh or the Pipmunks.... executive fools are always expendable. A pity no one seems to realize this soon enough
