Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It’s time to stop talking about how bad things are.

I’m hoping we can put these topics to rest. For those continuing to post and complain about the toxic culture, the attrition, the poor treating of staff I really want you to understand the truth of what’s happening here. Management whether we want to believe it or not, is extremely intelligent and shrewd when it comes to making money. Everything that’s making you uncomfortable and want to leave your job is by design. Not changing the rankings, hot desking, lack of innovation, no pay increases off- shoring jobs, all of these things are happening willingly. Don’t you think that if the company saw a business critical issue happening that they would do something about it? Of course they would. But they don’t want to. You have to accept it. They’ve already published that we are well above our headcount target. We need to lose people. we will continue to offshore jobs. The simple fact is that Exxon would rather have a news article about a bad culture, then an article about layoffs. They will continue to drive people away over the next three years until we reach targets. This doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Accepting all this can bring you peace. We all have a choice. We can stay knowing that things are not going to change and just try to get the most out of the company. Do what we need to do and spend time with our families. We can live with it. Or we can leave. But there’s really nothing to be said or discussed anymore that will have any impact on change that I can see.

I’ve consistently been an outstanding performer.

I’m tired of being lied to. I’m tired of management actively selling my job to a low cost center and asking me to train my replacement.

Employment contract has changed to an 'Up or Out' policy. If you're moving up then no worries. If you've stopped (it eventually will) and you're not an Exec they want u out. Simple as that.

Don't let the culture and 'employees are our best asset' BS confuse the message. Accept the new terms or get out.

Also what you think is mostly malice on the part of our executives I happen to think is mostly incompetence. Don't get me wrong, they're malicious too, but they've shown every indication of not knowing wtf they're doing.

So we should all just STFU is your solution OP? The real tragedy is that the executives think they are the reason we are making money. It is the few of us who haven't quit and are working 80 hour weeks that are making it happen and we have about had it. As soon as we quit this whole thing will come crashing down.
