Not sure how you get out of the building without swiping your badge? You don't want them to know you don't stay all day is that the point? Don't be a d-mba$$.

Why is this even a question? Of course they are tracking you. They have had the ability to track people for well over 20 years. Some guy was spending too long at the gym and they would look at the swipes in to see how long he was gone. Just swipe out - what’s the big deal? If you develop a pattern then they are likely to bring it up. I’m shocked that anyone who has spent even a week here would question that they have the ability to track. Only place you aren’t recorded is the bathroom.

Guys. What’s likely to happen is that the swipe data becomes visible to managers. Then managers are instructed to start the discipline process for anyone who has a pattern of coffee badging or not swiping out. They will have to bring to their employees’ attention that there’s a pattern of not being on site for the full day and ask why that is. You will have to explain to your boss that you sneak out that one door without badge sensors. They will have to say ok, why are you doing that when you know you are supposed to swipe out. Please start swiping out. And then when you don’t do it they’re supposed to engage employee relations and start the process of disciplining you.

But they’re not going to go through camera footage for each employee they want to layoff.

There are cameras everywhere. Especially in lobbies. Even in elevators. Pretty much the only place in the office where they can't have cameras are in the restrooms or changing areas if your building has a gym.

So yeah, if they really want to be di*ks about it, they could theoretically match up security footage with whatever # your badge is, whenever it's been swiped, wherever. That would spell the end of tailgating, and in turn, set a lot of employees up for termination.

I still don’t understand why people aren’t badging out. Like if you’re going to get up and shower and dress and commute to work, why not just stay there until 4pm. Would someone mind explaining? I’m so curious what this is about.

I did this when I forgot my badge and got a visit at my desk from security within 5 mins. Someone is always watching (in my hotel. Oceans 11 reference).

In Boston, we were told a few years ago we need to start badging out. I assume they did in other locations too? Like you got the directive in writing that you are to badge in and also badge out, right? So if you’re not badging out then you’re not compliant. People who badge in and out consistently and stay a full day in office aren’t going to be flagged. People who do otherwise I think are going to have a problem. I’ve heard they are going to crack down this year, and people managers had to complete a training by March 7th on how to systematically discipline people who have attendance problems, so…

As for badging someone else in, like sure, you can physically do that I guess, but obviously that’s not allowed and the person who did that would be in trouble if it were found out. What if you inadvertently let someone in who no longer works there?

Remember the Covid trackers in the ceilings? That are still there. Security has never chased you down or emailed your higher-up when not badging in? They do that. They watch.

When I was 16 working fast food (circa 1983) there were punch cards. They should do that to curb all the anxiety.
