WFH is still a game of some people wfh as much as they can get away with and others dutifully showing up to the office. Oh I have a sniffle, better wfh. My girlfriends son has a school delay, better wfh. I have a headache, better wfh for two weeks. My kid has an appt at noon, better wfh the entire day. It’s raining out, might be slick, WFH! Am I just a su---r for coming in? Feels like it. If they don’t care if people show up or not, then why not just let EVERYONE have more wfh days instead of just the slackers?

Have they started hiring any fully remote positions for corporate specialist roles?

They shouldn’t leave it up to supervisor discretion. It should be the same policy for everyone across the board. My supervisor wfh at least half the time but will not allow anyone in his group to wfh more than one day a week for any reason including family issues or personal illness. Another supervisor allows some employees, but not all, to wfh full time. Morale ki---r? You could say so.

They leave it up to the discretion of your supervisor. I have some family issues and asked for more flexibility to WFH for a while and was given the green light. However it would be nice to allow certain positions that don't face-to-face with anyone to go 100% WFH. I see some of the company side of this; we're an oil & gas company, why would we encourage our employees to use less of our products? I'm forever hopeful that they will see the light.

A positive, contemporary idea that would also improve employee morale?

No, we don't use those ideas here.

P.S.: You're fired for asking.

Most all at MPC do not know what an honest day of work is - they do very little work at the office, so why do they believe they will perform any better at home. MPC really needs to clean house and clear out the dead wood OR sell the company to Shell, Exxon, or some other decent company.

They dont care, theyll lose every last employee before they give in to anything. they toyed with the idea for a bit but it seems like the official stance will be "get into work or else"

Never. Old school mentality, if you ain’t in your seat, you ain’t working. People are leaving because they are getting jobs under the WFH or hybrid model. People with 20+ years leaving for jobs they can work remote. MPC is old school and if it’s NAOMI it ain’t gonna happen.
