Thread regarding Wayfair Inc. layoffs

What happened on 3/7 exactly? What's next?

Hey all,

I'm an L3 and wasn’t impacted on Friday, but honestly, that doesn’t mean much. The way things work here, I could be out tomorrow. I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this at work, so I’m hoping to get some clarity here.

I know Austin was wiped, but it seems like a bunch of people across technology were also laid off. Does anyone know who was targeted? I’ve seen people on LinkedIn with 8, 9, even 12 years at Wayfair being let go, was it mostly folks with slower career progression, or was there another pattern? I also heard some people were given the option to stay until June. How does that even work? What’s the catch?

This whole situation is draining and super unmotivating. If anyone has more insight, I’d really appreciate it. And what's next?

"We are always improving." Meaning - if you're not happy when we increase your workload and push the boundaries of your metrics to align with an increase to sharholder pay outs, but not your paycheck when our AI replaces you, keep it to yourself. The sky is the limit, not for you, but for them, and even that isn't working.

The reckoning in this country starts when you inflate the economy, keep the wages exactly the same, and then you're fighting as a business to retain both capital and customers for an economy where small homes are a million dollars, but wages are less than 55,000 gross.

You can make a business on home decor, for a while... but what happens when you run out of target customers and all the cardboard homes get filled with trash and the houses are empty in this country?

Isaiah Chapter 3 is a good place to start. Baldness and desolation awaits, just like in the end of that particular chapter.

My daughter got let go. She was an L4. Started in Boston but moved to Austin in 203. She was an 8 year employee. Saw online that management was told told cut 15% of workforce by giving employees a 4 or 5 on their yearly performance reviews even though they didn't deserve it. She called me a few days before being let go and told me she got a 4. She was upset. I told her I thought something was up and sure enough she was let go about a week later. All about $$ and politics.

I was included in the mandatory RTO resignation in December 2023, prior to the second round of January layoffs in January 2024. I was an L2 Sr. Analyst within B2B Sales. From what I discussed with an L6 after the January 2023 layoffs, the original layoff process was clearing out mid-to-upper management for teams that were top-heavy. They don't look at names, just levels and job titles. Again, this one 1-2 years ago, but I can't imagine it's changed much since I left. The one difference is shutting down entire offices and the DE website. I'm guessing they are still migrating even more roles offshore. There was a big push to launch the engineering teams in India in summer/fall of 2024. Sales and service front line and supplier ops folks started launching offshore teams in 2022.

I wish you luck but the writing is kind of on the wall at this point. Highly recommend getting your resume together, exporting any all performance reviews and rec wall posts and saving them to your personal storage now. Folks that are laid off lose access almost immediately after being informed.

To the L3 that posted recently.. If you are not based in Boston or in India, you are a ticking bo-b and will be laid off eventually. Doesn’t help that we have a government upside down and tariffs wars. Also, AI implementation is causing problems to warm bodies.
