Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Employee appreciation day or lack there of..

It’s National appreciation day today. What your leaders doing to appreciate the team today? I don’t see nothing here at UPC this far…what a shame!

Good for them, but the current management that the UP has is the reason the place is the way it is. What about the people that have been paying dues for years and still losing their jobs? I think you're a bit confused between job security and job guarantee.

I’m aware of several current managers that have continued to pay their union dues…it’s called job security! They are no more of a liability than current workers doing their jobs…just my humble opinion.

What kind of manager has continued to pay their union dues after 5, 10, or 20 years? A manager going back on the ground or to the tools after 5 years is going to be a liability. There's not too many managers at the UP that can even do the work. If the UP is offering an incentive for management to take a severance package instead going back to a union spot, then that would probably be the one and only good decision they've ever made in their career.

If a manager has continued to pay their union dues, the company can’t deny them to go back to the union side. They may incentive them not to though (I.e. nice severance package).

Would you let them go back to their original union jobs? I sure wouldn't. You might as well hire a new person if they're needed to fill a vacancy. The new person can at least be trained to do things the right way. A manager going back to their union job always ends in disaster. Many can't let go of the fact that they're not a manager anymore, and most carry that manager mentality with them when they go back, then try to get people fired all of the time. Plus they'll have to go back and work with the very people they spent years irritating and writing up. The short version of that story is that they'll be more of a problem, than a solution. I seriously doubt the cuts will be in the management ranks though if it's true.

Managers have been in an even worse mood than usual this week. Suspect they are getting it from above.

Our leaders are yelling and threatening people, plus looking at cameras to find ways to get rid of people. I really wouldn't expect anything less from them at this point.
