Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

To the leadership team: you could salvage this

Admit this was a mistake, if cuts need to be made then reduce, not eliminate, _everybody's_ RSU/AEGs equally.

Give us all a stake in Illumina's future beyond hoping it survives until we find our next roles.

This would be genuine leadership listening and correcting.

Retention bonuses when? In 2025?

When I got laid off at Illumina, I had access to a different Workday portal than normal. I can only assume this was by mistake, but I could see additional info such as people's IDs and letters they've received from the company. I can confirm they offered fat retention bonuses to upper management during these layoffs. Just FYI, maybe you already know this.

In my organization AEG grants distribution was in the past based on political favors and private likes and dislikes of upper management, not really the performance, delivery or scope of work. I am not delusional to think that it will change now.

Funny thing is, presumably they continue to award AEGs for the top performers to keep them from leaving. But once the next tranch of solid to really good but not quite top performers leave en masse because their comp has been cut by 30-50k, those top performers aren't going to want to stick around dragging the lower performers along even if they're still getting AEGs.

What leadership team?

No way they can salvage anything. They have proven they are incompetent. We are the pinnacle of nothing and the two Jacob’s have no idea how to run this company. There is not clear strategy!

In finance we keen hearing about more cuts to come, it feels like there is not way round it.

The promo cycle is rigged that's why. Leadership will never admit this was a mistake. Our feedback goes in one ear and out the other.

Here here! I can get behind that. Otherwise, I’m happy to let my director deal with all the AD-level stuff I’ve done for years so that they earn their special bonus points. Been told for years that yes, I SHOULD be an associate director, but boss’s hands are tied. Well, now I don’t see any motivation to continue doing that level of work. Turn it around!
