ELT is extremely tone deaf

I am quite stunned by the performance yesterday of the ELT. Specifically the "head of people". How out of touch with reality do you need to be to claim that "it's the culture and the friends we made a long the way" that will keep talent around once they cut compensation. Not only to mention it once, but double down on it. I don't think she has any idea about the realities faced by many, and unfortunately seems ill equiped to head HR in such a large company.

Why did they not consider cutting AEGs for AD and above by 50-60% and keeping the AEG based compensation for the rest of the employees, it would have made sense even to give out 50% of what we typically get. Instead of a half assed "oh the ELT are not getting raises and taking a 20% drop in AEG"

@qt+1jn7ssfkt 50%? They had mentioned a 20% decrease in AEGs for AD and above, and no raise for the ELT this year?

AD and above are actually taking close to 50% haircut in the RSU grants this year. Given how top heavy the org is, I am surprised that it was not enough. It suggests that there is some much deeper financial issues upon us. Would not be surprised to see another RIF in the very near future.

I'm actually surprised how tone deaf they are too. That was the worst company meeting I've ever attended.

I have been an Illumina employee for a LONG time. I have never considered leaving Illumina until now. I truly believe the “soul” has been su-ked out of this company. It is not what it once was. I have found myself asking more than once over the last few years if this was the beginning of the end. Management continues to take take take all while demanding more more more. The level of talent that has left this company is truly staggering. I fear even more will soon follow.

As we know the next steps will be this useless Power of I survey that they will want to hear our feedback. As someone who has been here for MANY years this exercise is pointless and futile. It only serves management as saying we are listening to you. We hear your concerns. This will be immediately followed by follow up meeting to discuss and clarify the results. I suggest a new approach. When the inevitable survey comes along NO ONE fills it out. We show the same ambivalence they show us back to them. I believe this will send a stronger message than a strongly worded response on a useless survey. They love to tout the engagement numbers let’s at least take that from them. I for one will no longer fill out any surveys for any management group as they are useless. Just my two cents. Hope others will follow.

At this point they are better off by just saying in all hands "beatings will continue until morale improves."
