With the Ford+ middle school popularity program now in place, I spend approximately 65% of my days snoozing across all the areas I interface because meeting or exceeding ojectives is meaningless if ANYONE doesn't like you enough for when they do the popularity poll. The rest of my time is spent in meetings, answering emails, IMs, and finally doing work....in that order. If JF was really serious about turning around the company he would dump the multi levels of behavior ratings and just level set them to standard basic workplace behaviors that if it is bad, some files a complaint, it is investigated and people if necessary are dismissed. All this all stuff is just subjective garbage that the toxic people use as a tool to gang up on people they simply can't compete with. Instead of working and getting things done, we are just sitting around working on our popularity and making sure nobody gets upset.

@j7+1jmqej4qx You are very naive.
Ford states that they post all LL5 positions. However this is false.
Even the posted LL5 positions and interview process is a scam. What nearly always happens is
- a known person is selected for the job
- if the LL4 feels obliged to follow HR policies he posts the position (ie HR has been up in his grill before for ignoring policies)
- then a number of LL6 are coerced into applying for the position. The coerced LL6 are carefully curated to meet diversity goals and to ensure they aren’t truly qualified for the position or have some “flaw” they can use to deselect them. Ie. needs more fluency in English, needs an MBA, etc. Qualified LL6 are dissuaded from applying (not your time, it will hurt your future career)
- the interviews are held and the preselected person is given the job.
Same thing happens at all the LLx levels. If you think otherwise you have not been paying attention. Source: 25 years of observing. Spouse was an LL4. I was obliged to host social events: poker nights, lake outings etc. Liq-or lubricated tongues and I heard all and said little. Most of the promotions were about preserving their own jobs and advancing their own career. Being too intelligent, too productive, too likable will ensure you are not promoted at Ford. Those things make you a threat. And yes dear reader, I realize what this says about my spouse.
@j7+1jmqej4qx - That wasn't always the case. And there is a lot you can do still to have a preferred candidate and increase their chances.
@j2+1jmqej4qx - Are you sure you're in the correct website? Because Ford posts all LL5 positions. There is no such thing as "LL5 promotion promised ". You apply for a position when it is posted. If you're qualified, you and 3-5 others get interviewed, and the rest is history.
Now, having said that, the hiring manager does have a lot of leeway. They use the term "best fit" when selecting the final candidate. Also, don't forget about the Friends and Family track to leadership!
Way back I had a few top achiever ratings, was working really long hours and had an LL5 promotion promised to me. Manager leaves, we reorg, nobody seems to remember that. I built trust and rapport with new manager, proved that I'm worthy, and again start getting words that an LL5 is on the way. We reorg again, and all of a sudden none of that matters, and the new leadership hasn't even bothered to read my resume.
I have zero incentive to work hard now, and I am still somewhat stupid enough to want Ford to succeed. The nail in the coffin is when you see leadership change their minds all the time, impact quality, and then the blame (and lack of compensation) goes to Engineering, etc.
C-Suite and BoD can pat themselves all they want, but they have all failed us. Their words mean absolutely nothing, and they wonder why morale is low.
Same. I’m so checked out. I’m extremely talented and experienced in my field and I’ve tried to put my best foot forward. I can count my years of service on one hand and the amount of reorgs on two hands.
I came here to improve the future of mobility not make incompetent sycophants feel important.
So sad. I remember our downfall before Mulally came to save us, was the same situation. All that mattered was likability. It almost bankrupted Ford. Too bad the Ford family, BoD are just too stupid to learn from the past. They are literally pushing high achievers to focus efforts on winning popularity contests than doing work to save the company in order to appease the lowest common denominator leadership ranks.
I dont blame you at all.
$82,191 per day salary provided he works 365dayes per year.
I put in 200 hours of unpaid overtime and get called at home in the middle of the night.
My performance review was MET expectations and a 1.7% raise.
For 2025 I’m lowering the bar.
No more free overtime.
No more after hours support. Phone goes on airplane mode when I go to bed.
Met expectations will be given met performance.
And just think our incompetent CEO Jim Farley get almost $30 million per year for “did not meet expectations”
Wake the Phaque up Bill Ford!
So sad that Ford cares more about who is popular than actually producing a quality product that people want. I guess we can read in that the current leadership were the unpopular kids and are stuck trying to fix their broken middle / high school years.
From all the notes and comments I have read in this site, this is the one with more common sense and I do second it 100%.
I am very responsible and a lead engineer, yet, it does not matter how much I do rapport to the improvement of my plant, and how much money I have save (and I do help $2-3 millions per year), I am always meet meet at PR time.
Can't not compare to other people on my same job, with no savings on favor of Ford, but with better ratings as the system is SUBJECTIVE rather than OBJECTIVE.
Very bad approach when you have a weak boss that can't defend you from the toxic voices.
