3M HR Fun Office Culture = Distraction from Poor Pay

Ping-pong tables and free snacks are cool, but they don’t pay the bills.

Hyping the “fun” factor without talking about salary or benefits, it’s a distraction tactic. Keep your eyes on the prize—real value.

I wouldn't bother pilfering the TP from any 3M facility. The TP at Garbage Grove felt like rejected sandpaper from one of 3Ms rundown sandpaper factories.

Hr’s every single process and initiative is collapsing because of incompetence evp and down. But the out of line promotions continue…

If a company thinks it can lay off older "knowledge workers', replace them with inexperienced people straight out of school, and get satisfactory results, why wouldn't it think it could get rid of experienced factory floor workers with cheaper people and get satisfactory results? It's all not valuing anybody's experience in search of short-term cost savings. Hopefully, another company will value all of these people.

i love that term "knowledge workers", yes the factory floor worker who has been walked over the majority of their career and management expects them to pass on their knowledge for free and new starts to be competent in no time due to your brainpower, ain't happening on my watch Bill

Nobody works at work. We're called "knowledge workers" for a reason.

The value I bring to 3M isn't my ability to move a lever back and forth, over and over. But if I can't hear myself think then it's not the accumulated wisdom or clever ideas, either.

I don't mind it. Gives me something to do when I'm forced to be in the office.

Because I sure as sh-t can't get any work done on "collaboration days." People yammering away right next to my desk, typing loudly, walking back and forth, distractions everywhere.

If the video game is still in 225, then BB will probably have a hidden camera to catch anyone "goofing off" on paid time because they are using the video game. Just another of his Minnesota Nasty moves.

Is the video game room still there on the first floor of 225 by the plaza? I know it was there for at least a decade and I can say I never, ever saw anyone actually use it.

Check back with us in 6 months. The ping pong tables will be in a long closet. And the snacks will be in vending machines. Nothing like paying 2 bucks for small pack of fif newtons at the Center.

Bait and switch. No wonder BB made the top 10 for most despised CEOs (by his former employees) at his former employer.

Minnesota Nasty
