Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Microsoft and Google already beat IBM to usable quantum!

What you made is just useless quantum chip that has huge error rate!

And good luck surviving the PIP layoffs!

I read a paper somewhere that said the best we might ever get with quantum is like setting up pins at a bowling ally. You run a quick exchange of information(knock down the pins) and get a result, then have it reset itself(new frame of pins) . If this is the case, Quantum computing will go down as biggest waste of resources ever. Almost like a red herring of the computing world.

'usable is not the right word. Quantum is still not a functioning platform nor will it ever be. There's massive flaws in the entire premise of quantum computing'

IBM is transforming its business to focus on enterprise software. Logic (yeah, I know) would suggest that R&D in the basic sciences and engineering behind quantum computing are therefore not a priority in the company.

In fact, I wouldn't look for any real R&D into anything beyond the next 10 years of Z evolution. If an idea cannot be quickly packaged and sold as either a hardware or software product, don't expect IBM to stick with it.

Microsoft would claim all sorts of things. Meanwhile it runs low on money in the bank, so it needs a distraction.

The Microsoft video says it was their longest-running research project at 17 years.

Can you imagine IBM sticking with something for 17 years?

This is why we fail.

ps 17 years ago, IBM's excellent (at the time) Research Lab in San Jose was heavily poached (50% or more left) by Google and Microsoft and never recovered from that.

This "chip" is just vapourware promoted using Microsoft LLMs in various fake "news" site (written by bots).

Also vapourware and nonsense https://www.pcworld.com/article/2612235/microsoft-is-replacing-human-gamers-and-even-games-with-ai.html ("Microsoft's Muse WHAM replaces humans with AI for testing games")

LOL !

Microsoft already has a chip announced. Where is IBM's Alvind talking trash as usual (like a used car salesman) ? Link provided below :

Too little,
Too late
Nothing new
For Big Blew.

Big Red
Went to AK’s head
A blue rinse
Will make it dead.

The executive bonuses continued, however, while the workers were PIPed or RA’d.
