I’m so over going into the office and going home sick every week. I’m starting to really have very negative feelings towards my coworkers who are causing me to be sick every WFH week.

OP, I was laid off in March 2024. I don’t know if this is still acceptable now, but this is what I tried back when I was still working there. I told Fidelity that due to my condition (NOT being immunocompromised) that I would like to come into the office during the same number of connect week days required per week, but to come in on my own time given my condition. I told them that the goal was to actually go in the office more often than assigned, but just when I can prepare accordingly. The HR team said it was absolutely possible since I wasn’t asking for reduction in time, only when I WANTED to. As long as I did the days, I was good. All I had to do was receive a note from my therapist at the time. Unfortunately my therapist then was a di-k who wasn’t having it, but that’s besides the point.
Take it however you want to. I understand if you think you might get laid off if you decide to do this, especially because I was laid off. But it’s definitely possible to restructure if you don’t ask for a reduction of time required in the office. Plus, you can scout out some rare secluded spots on weeks you’re not assigned. Good luck.
Measles also on the rise.
Measles is spread through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. The virus can remain airborne for up to two hours and can contaminate surfaces, such as doorknobs and countertops. People can become infected by breathing in the airborne virus or by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching their eyes, nose, or mouth
TB on the rise in USA as well.
tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne disease. This means that the bacteria that cause TB are spread through the air when a person with active TB disease coughs, sneezes, talks, or sings.
The bacteria, called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, are released into the air as tiny droplets that can remain suspended for hours. When healthy people inhale these droplets, they can become infected with TB.
Factors that increase the risk of airborne TB transmission include:
Close contact with an infected person, Poor ventilation, Crowded spaces, and Spending time in healthcare settings where TB is common.
To prevent the spread of airborne TB, it's important to:
Get vaccinated against TB
Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
Stay home if you have TB symptoms
Improve ventilation in your home or workplace
Use air purifiers with HEPA filters
How RSV spreads
Airborne: When an infected person coughs or sneezes, they release droplets that can enter your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Contact: You can also catch RSV by touching a contaminated surface, such as a doorknob or countertop, and then touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Direct contact: You can catch RSV by shaking hands with an infected person.
How to prevent RSV
Cover your coughs and sneezes.
Wash or sanitize your hands often.
Clean frequently touched surfaces.
Bring in fresh outside air.
Purify indoor air.
Stay home and away from others when you are sick.
RSV in different age groups
RSV is highly contagious and most babies are infected by their second birthday. Older children and adults are often re-infected with RSV, but usually have mild illness.
simple. do not touch your hands to your mouth, eyes or nose.
Oh so then you’re a DEI hire
Op here. I’m immunocompromised. End of story.
If you’re not immunocompromised, and you’re getting sick every effing week, you’re doing something wrong.
Also don’t be an a--hole and assume people are going to the bars and concerts.
Great, blame someone who is immunocompromised for being sick around sick people. What happened to liberals supporting dei?
There are really employees here d-mb enough to think a volunteer layoff is a thing? That’s… wow. I mean I hope they do get selected when the time comes, because wow.
I also shouldn’t have to say this again but I will. Your HR partners are not there to help you. Do not go in there and ask them for help. What is wrong with people?
OP, are you immune compromised? It’s not normal to be getting sick every week you’re in the office. You need to take better care of yourself, eat well, sleep well, stay hydrated, and don’t get too close to people. I think I caught one cold this entire year, from a co-worker I took an uber with.
Also, if you’re freaking out about your co-workers (who are forced to go in just like you are, btw, what do you want them to do, stay home every single day they have cold symptoms and also stay home before they even know they’re sick?) but you’re going out on weekends to concerts and sporting events and bars, you need to be quiet.
The absolute last thing upper mngt cares about is our physical and mental health.
The badge swipe doctrine has taken on a life of its own. I know people in my group who contacted HR asking to be laid off since the environment is so unhealthy and toxic. They were told no. Either let the company destroy you or leave with no small layoff severance.
Abby don’t give a fock if you get sick or die. Badge swipes are all she cares about
Agree 100%.
And leave your sick kids at home as well.
