All car companies are multinational.

They have no loyalty to any country or workers.

They have no ethics and do anything that makes them money.

If our car parts and finished cars are mostly made in China, Canada, and Mexico, in what way is GM an American car company?

Because our CEO lives in the US?

Because we still have some American workers?

Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, etc. have American factories and workers.

Are they American car companies too?

What makes a car company "American"?

Yes, and I won't be buying any "American" cars anymore if this is how they treat Americans.

"If a company wants to bring in a foreign worker, they not only have to pay them the going rate, but also pay the US government twice that salary every year."

they will just fudge the going rate
maybe tie their salaries to other disciplines like judges and politicians who cannot get insourced or outsourced

"Departments that start out with a handful of h1bs become all h1b within a year or two, especially if they get some manager positions."

Yup, it's like some sort of perpetual motion machine.
Once it starts, it won't stop.
Then they will all be bragging about their skills and certificates but nothing new will ever come from them. Then the company ends up like Intel, a complete mess.

"Anyone who thinks GM hires H1B for cheap labor, please reachout."

With an endless supply of immigrants, GM feels they can lay people off as much as they want. Nobody has bargaining power anymore. Older people making more money and younger people who want a work life balance and aren't friends with a director are out. When they get replaced, Americans aren't going to prioritize hiring American like people on visa will prioritize people from there places of origin.

AI and H1Bs are BOTH threats to the jobs of American workers.

H1-B is not your threat.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet is.
https://www.anthropic.com/claude/sonnet

Both Raj and Jason are going to be replaced by AI.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet can already get the job done and anyone with a modicum of computer literacy and project management skills can not only replace your entire team, it can turn the work around in mere minutes.
When management finds out, they will be running test groups to find out just how good this AI option is. They are hellbent on cost cuts. Count on this being the end not only of the teams of coders, but the managers who babysit them.

Stop fighting each other and start figuring out what the next career path is.

Baseball, motherhood, apple pie, and Chevrolet.

Pro baseball bats are made in Costa Rica.
Fat cats import eastern European models to marry.
The majority of imported apples come from the Southern Hemisphere.
Chevrolet: do I really need to go there?

"Lol, all data is publically available."

what makes you think any of that is accurate
and no all data is not publically available (like you medical records)
wasn't it last year the previous administration said they created an
extra 800,000 jobs and then on a further revision removed them
ever since that globalism cr-p kicked in i don't think any of our institutions
are honest anymore

So the whole issue of H1B being cheap labor is flushed down the toilet now?

@yv+1jm3thw86

Yes. Posting is exactly as job description. The only thing retracted is name and other personal details. I have never seen manager or director asking H1b in specific to do extra work just to squeeze them. The overall squeeze is for everyone

H1Bs may be on par with compensation. But there is an opportunity for management to squeeze more unpaid hours out of them, with the implicit threat of job loss and a return trip home.

Classic example of not know what the fu-k you are talking. For H1B visa extension, you need to show salary slip. For new one USCIS demands offer letter. Where is question of audit if actual salary slip is provided. Unless you believe GM and OEMs fake salary slips! In that case, you interrupted in stock investment?

A company can post a salary range for an H1B position but that doesn't mean the H1B is actually making that.

The US government doesn't audit the salaries.

They just take the company's word.

And as we've all experienced, companies lie.

Lol, all data is publically available. For example how many H1B are filed by GM in a fiscal year and salary for every filing. You just need to get your head out of your a-s and Google it. Eye opener for you. Everyone that does not look like you is not an H1B holder. Grow up. There are 2nd 3rd generation of immigrants. Just like you!

You need to buy xeta, licrosoft, lavidia share for best returns!

lol another answer from a ‘keyboard expert.’ Tell you what, work at an American auto company for a while that uses a lot of H1B’s and then come back to me. Been there and done it. You don’t know what the he-l you’re talking about.

Anyone who thinks GM hires H1B for cheap labor, please reachout. I have got amazing stocks to sell, they will make you soo much money that you never have to work again.
GM has midpoint for every band. So is 7A band has 135K median, obviously the will not be H1B employes working 100K. Typically they will be in 120K to 140K range. Also for GM, H1B cost money. Just anual paperwork cost adds up to 5K in fees to USCIS, plus retainer to lawfirm. Sure if you think its under paid, you are at loss. An average H1B worker will be happy at being at midpoint and with that salary can easily afford house in best school districts. Just need mortgage and decent GM car payment. They dont need to pay alimony for 1st, 2nd, 3rd wife(s), wash off sins from abuse of student loans, mortgage for cabin up north, mortgage from a boat, payment for trucks and cars (that they know cant afford), payment for recreation vehicle, the list goes on and on.
Again if you are a genius that still believes far right spread lies that H1B is cheap labor let me know, I will help you buy best stocks!

Companies won't pay extra for foreigners, because we all know it's really about cheap labor, not shortages.

Like you said every high tech company is laying off.

So, what shortage?

Why would you give private companies control of the US immigration system by letting them claim there's a worker shortage and allowing them to import Third World workers and give them permanent residency?

Companies claim it isn't about getting cheap labor, but filling worker shortages.

I like the idea that was posted here a while ago. Let companies put their money where their mouths are.

If a company wants to bring in a foreign worker, they not only have to pay them the going rate, but also pay the US government twice that salary every year.

So a foreign worker costs 3 times as much as American, every year that they're here. But companies can fill the shortage they claim exists (even while they lay off American engineers which they claim they don't have enough of).

The money that goes to the US government would be used to enforce that no one's cheating the system, and train Americans to back fill the position.

Companies will then be happy to replace the foreign worker with a well trained American for a third the cost.

If companies are telling the truth, they'll be happy to get all the workers they claim they need, but at a premium cost.

If companies say there is a shortage of US talent, they can sponser foreign workers to be permanent USA residents (green card holders). This will discourage employer abuse of the H-1B worker. Currently, if the H-1B worker loses their job, they must leave the USA (after a 60 day grace period) if they don't find another job within that 60 day grace period. If they are permanent US residents, they have the equivalent residency rights of a US citizen, and cannot be deported due to job loss.

If the leadership says there is not enough US-based talent, then they must know talent when the see it. If they know talent, they can invest to bring workers stateside permanently. If they say they need guest workers to "test them out", then they are charlatans blowing hot air because how do they know there is no US-based talent available if they don't talent when they see it.

"Why aren't you moving forward? Upping your skills, looking for a new job.
Complaining here isn't going to move the needle.
It's very obviously this behavior is what got you fired in the first place! "

That is all conjecture and insults. This is the type of thing you're getting with visa labor, a lot of empty talk and attitude. "Upping your skills" is a fallacy. I already had skills and upped what I had every day. I got laid off. Refused to come back when multiple people from GM contacted me. I make significantly more than I did at GM now.

I actually wish GM the best, this I why I speak out about the visas.

"Because I can't work for half my salary in my own country, America, because I'm being forced to compete with people from Third World countries."

Your standard of living goes down. Third world country India has their standard of living go up and well as the bankers'. It is a transfer of wealth from you to them.

Just a reminder- not every brown person in the company is on H1B. GM Ford hv mostly been averse to Visas compared to Silicon Valley companies. Lot of the brown folks have American citizenship as well. China BYD is making the SLT s their pants so that could be a thing as well..

Lower labor costs increase the SLT's bonus, so it's worth it.
