Considering the hiring going on in India the number of Americans who will be fired starting now is going to be a big number. Also once you train your replacements in India the firing will continue. This isn’t survive one cut. Get ready for annual reduction of headcount and benefits and compensation from now on.

My experience with "Reduced Cost Engineering Centers" in India was horrific. Just throw the schedule out the window, get ready for lots of evening meetings to keep progress on track and don't plan on saving money. There will be over-runs and fixing things in the field which is a very expensive process. People dealing with this just quit.
On the other hand, you can hire top notch Indian (or Chinese) expats that are way better than most American expats. They may have graduated from Universities like IIT ( Delhi, Bombay) that are rated much higher than Stanford. Get the right contractor and expect to pay more than in-country rates. Expat positions cost at least double what stateside jobs cost, so there is still a big cost saving opportunity
Ive worked with Indians overseas in the Middle East and with HVEC etc. I haven’t been impressed.
@bp There was nothing grossly wrong with that post "relatively" on this site as far as grammar. It was written in colloquial rather than perfect English. Not everyone on here are college grads and I've seen much much worse on this site. It's likely you sit in your WFH or office and do a lot of nothing while he/she actually works in the field.
BTW, the comment was spot on from my experience with the skilled Indians. You jelly?
You can hire expat Indians that speak English better than folks from Pascagoula and Scotland. Just set the bar higher.
Vat?! (What?!), Vat are you talking about? (head bobble) Proficient in Umrican English? Very very good (Borat voice)!
@a4+1 Judging the structure of your sentences, I don't trust you in telling me these folks are "Very proficient in the English".
Trump stated three times (once on the “all-in podcast”, another time on the campaign, and I think the other time was on Rogan) that he wants to “staple green cards to diplomas.” The tech bros have his ear about immigration (David Sachs, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg). They want infinite Indians to come to America to code AI. It’s just a fact that Trump does not have Americans’ backs when it comes to jobs.
Tell the tariff man, he may bring it up to the media. https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/
Yep!
bp is going through the same headache.
We even sent our maintenance engineering, planning, and scheduling over to india...you could imagine how thats working.
Currently working towards sending our Turnaround, Site Projects, and Large Projects to India as well. (Project Managers, Controls, Tar Leads, Construction Managers Etc)
The Technical Hub India thing is not a good thing for Americans.
I'm surprised this isn't more in the media, the companies are literally taking away from American GDP, not to mention raising our unemployment rates for "cost cuts".
Seems most expat contractors were Fircroft or Swifties who were expensive. If the Indians worked for them, there may not be as much incentive to swap em out.
I keep reading "Petrotech degrees" on this site . What's a "petrotech degree" according to you guys? There was no such degree when I went to school. Is that offered now or just a category? I know Pet. E. is still offered but no longer popular. It was actually not popular anymore as early as the 80's when I graduated. The traditional fields still were as they are. (Mech, Civil. Elect. Chem). Those have nothing specifically to do with O&G, in case you don't know.
Terrible trend. Americans are going to stop getting petrotech degrees. Basically transferring our knowledge to foreign nationals.
Yes. You need to go that's obvious OP. Just you complaining like a helpless victim on this site who has never worked for a major is enough to tell all. Buh-bye.
I agree with the Indian expat comment, but those that have been working expat would do anything to not take a pay cut to work in their own country.
We feel your pain at ExxonMobil. We have been building our India and Malaysian offices for years and now do yearly GE style “performance” based layoffs. At least you are getting severance pay.
We even bring people over to displace Americans on training Visas. You can be sure the current administration will stop these visas.
Trash
I worked with a lot of Indian expat contractors overseas (Kazakhstan, Angola), Very thorough and hard working, very proficient in English. If Chevron wants to save $$$, they should start there.
