Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Project Sonoma

This was a total waste of money that could have been put towards increasing the pay of employees. This new build is losing thousands due to the different and various ways Medtronic operates compared to how CEVA operates. So much of the wrong product as well as quantity of product is going out, and Medtronic continues to have a hard time getting the product back into inventory. Project Sonoma ran out of space earlier last yr which prolonged the move of the Swinnea campus. One of the supervisors told me that much of the product is sitting on the trailers/doc doors waiting to be unloaded due to the limited space. Each week those trailers sit at the door, it's $2500. I'm not going to even get started on the constant need for overtime, needing volunteers, and the car break-ins etc.

I’m shocked that a guy from wal mart didn’t nail the medical device supply chain. Almost like experience matters.

Sonoma is the project that consolidates the US distribution network footprint, or tried to. Until their new and shiny Memphis warehouse got tapped out for space, and bullet holes in the roof lol. Yes recurring bullet holes

Severance was never going to happen. I remember in the first meeting concerning the move, the director actually told people that they could apply to work for CEVA if they wanted to. A few meetings and town halls later, the Director told the people in certain departments that if they didn't sign the paper passed around in the meeting, then they wouldn't have a job when it was time for their dept to move. This whole process to me was a way for MDT to do a RIF without paying. I know quite a few people that quit after realizing how they had been swindled. I knew something was up in the first meeting when the director encouraged people to apply for ceva and told which departments would automatically become CEVA employees during the move. What really got me is prior to the UPS/Diabetes backing out of the move, employees was told that 250 additional people would need to be hired. If you need that many people, why encourage your current Medtronic employees to apply to a company you're partnering with??!l Then again, I know some people wanted to switch to CEVA because they pay was better. I bet a lot of the people that was offered early retirement wish they had have taken it back in 2022.

Let's not forget us promising Memphis Diabetes workers jobs and then yanking it back. I can't believe workers voluntarily moved to CEVA without demanding severance. Id--ts. Decline CEVA job, get severance, apply at CEVA. Bo-m double income for a period. Anyone with a pulse can be hired with them.

RV should be canned for letting it get out of hand, but supply chain definitely didn't help either. Situate inventory coming out the ears, no strategic plan for footprint increase, etc. Glad I'm gone!

Not sure what was wrong with the original $65 million Swinnea campus to begin with!

At this point, I’m pretty sure they would do anything except raise the pay of employees. Last year I started my own side business for supplemental income. The moment I hit my 40 hours each week, I am done and I do that instead.

This is what happens with adopting "do more with less" mindset.

As someone who left 1.5 years ago… I’m surprised this is still going on. The trailers sitting in the parking lot was a thing back then too. Mis-shipments as well. Surprised but not really that this all hasn’t been sorted out yet... all of this was slated to be done last summer iirc. Maybe even earlier.
