Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Earnings look very good and upbeat. LR has been canceled.

Get back to work. No LR this time till July. Everything's dandy and fantastic.
I love Cisco. Hiring freeze has been unfrozen. Put in your application if you're on the outside. High 5 'n cheers everybody.

I have a hard time believing there won't be any layoffs. Maybe it's just not a massive company wide one.

Cisco should look after the people that were sc--wed in the layoffs!

Layoffs have been part of American business for over 40 years and Cisco has been doing them, sometimes as often as quarterly, for 24 years. Even in the 2008 economic collapse people who were prepared were able to find new jobs relatively quickly, being able to pocket the severance as a bonus.

One quarter of marginally acceptable results means the sky isn't falling but it doesn't mean it's smooth sailing forever more. PIPs and hiring freezes likely got the body count to where the ELT wanted it, and as others have pointed out the YoY numbers still don't yet include Splunk's earnings and revenues in the previous year's numbers. As with 2008 world events can upset even the best run businesses. If Cisco works for you, great, stick with it, but don't stop improving both your skills and your professional network. There are too many forces outside your control and you need to be prepared.

Cisco should look after the people that were sc--wed in the layoffs! Cisco even took back our stock options!!! We helped get Cisco to where you are and now seeing everybody celebrate at our expense makes me absolutely sick!

I'm amazed how the numbers as stated seem to have impressed the market. I can only assume they were expecting them to be even worse.

If you exclude Splunk (which was acquired during the last 12 months), revenue was down 1% YoY. The networking business was down even more - 3% YoY.

So the 9% revenue increase is just the addition of Splunk's revenue. That has also inflated the security and visibility numbers.

For many years the only growth that Cisco has had has come through acquisition, and we know how hit and miss those have been.

Great news. Our stock is popping in after-hours. Cisco will capitalize on AI to grow its revenues to new highs. Investors are very pleased.

In the guidance section of the earnings release for FY25, Cisco estimates:

"Significant asset impairments and restructurings" to be $0.16 – $0.18 per share

That equates to $656 million to $738 million for FY25.

The report also states that in the six months ending January 25, 2025, Cisco already spent $675 million on "Significant asset impairments and restructurings."

This suggests up to $63 million could still be spent in the next two quarters if the total reaches the high end of guidance - or maybe, for once, we’ll get lucky, and there won’t be any more LRs this year.
