If layoffs are approaching, then leadership should consider sending an anonymous survey to let employees vote on who contributes the least. Many of us have watched those who actually keep this place running get cut, while others remain despite adding little value. After years of this pattern, I do not think Corning can take much more, nor do I believe it realizes how many great people it has lost and could still lose.
A better approach would be to offer early retirement or financial incentives to those willing to leave. This would prevent the loss of those who actually make a difference and ensure the company keeps the talent it needs to survive.
