These layoffs are understandable until you realize they're letting very accomplished, experienced consultants who are very knowledgeable go. It's almost as if they're just picking names out of a hat based on some of the people I've seen let go. Meanwhile, some of the most incompetent PMs and RMs are left unscathed. It's always nice to see the RM team make multiple rounds around the office—clearly they're so busy and occupied with really important work!
Apparently these layoffs were all a result of a forecasting error made sometime in 2024 which caused them to overhire in the last few hiring cycles.
Somehow the bloated, parasitic RM team that does nothing of actual value (and is in charge of said forecasting) doesn't get any cuts despite it likely being a huge fu-k up on their part...This is what happens when you run a company solely on politics and 'visibility' and having your promotionability based on whether your pseudo-manager (i.e. RM) likes you rather than actual competence. Surely there is a conflict of interest when the people in charge of handing out the cuts don't receive any cuts themselves?
Eddie/Stewart, if you're reading this, I bet nothing noticeable would change if the RM team was gutted by 75%. It would actually probably improve a lot of things since one's actual manager will become their real manager and not have to act through some unnecessary intermediate. Just an idea, maybe Eddie can get a brand new 911 then.
