What is corporate to do? Stop all hiring until they figure out what they are doing?
Walgreens is making itself attractive to buyers. Nothing else. Soon all these hires will be laid off.
I assume there must be layoffs happening in the next few months.
New hires better not be comfortable either. IT laid off many new hires not too long ago.

Don't be fooled. When new roles are added, positions will be eliminated elsewhere. Walgreens is in no way increasing total headcount.
