Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Layoff rumor

I don’t really buy the rumor going around about layoffs or termination due to not swiping in. My manager misses at least one day a connect week, schedules most vacations during in office weeks or comes in after lunch. That with it being hard to track if an employee is still on campus or has left for the day.

If managers don’t even have to come in, why would others be let go for it?

There is no list. I don’t believe it.

If fidelity gets one thing wrong, it’s equality.

All of you that got on the list, how often were you coming to the office?

Data on swipe outs is not recorded - not every site has that feature (not all doors have badge swipes) so the data can’t be collected equally across the sites. It’s only recorded the ONE swipe a day - not the time, not the hours, not the exit. Obviously all entrances have security cameras, so wouldn’t recommend badging in and turning around the leave. Just do 5-6hrs in the office if your a project based/salary employee (unless you’re a phone rep tied to call volume - those jobs are sc--wed).

Ok social media team. No need for passive aggressive insults

This all seems so juvenile, worried about employees face time in an office rather than focusing on what is important- production! I can't speak for anyone else but I can clearly see my numbers are stronger at home than in the office. At the end of the day, I get paid by the hour so if Fidelity wants to sacrifice numbers for employee monitoring and control I'll continue to go into the office and have more social time.

No Pulse survey this go around. I think they got more than enough feedback (I think they said it was the most they had received). They know they haven't improved anything so they're not going through the song and dance.

If people have to deal with a sick kid and still have to work then I see the company getting in trouble if they try to dock someone PTO time and they (salaried) work even an hour that day. HR would be looking for a pattern of missing connect weeks and it would have to be a lot to get on the naughty list. People are going into work sick though and maybe that’s what someone might have been alluding to as unsafe? Bring on the pulse survey! If they even do that anymore. What a sorry state this place has become.

if you were on any "naughty list" the requirement is for you to make up any days you missed, PTO or sick regardless is what I'm hearing from people that have been told they are not in compliance with making up the day PRIOR to the week you are OOO on PTO. Got from a very reliable source so they are cracking down significantly.

What is unsafe in the office?

I’m not fighting going into the office, but HR will not fire people for serious complaints but they will fire people who feel unsafe coming into the office. Way to go, Abby.

“Even internally the rules have been updated to state that full days in office are required during your in office weeks.”

There you go, right there. When they update the FAQs, that definitely means they’re about to crack down. I don’t know why some of you are pushing back so hard on this. Like someone said below, it’s do as I say, not as I do. And they’ve been collecting the time swiped in and out, of course they were going to use it eventually. Your manager is going to get written up and eventually fired too if they don’t start complying.

Amount of hours in so far does not matter but it may soon. And planned Vacas mostly. The day a week will, though if unplanned it wfh with no exception.

The things the firm cares about is so mysterious. Look up your coworkers on brokercheck and come back to me and tell me how badge swipes mean anything.

Equality is not a thing at fidelity. My manager lets some people on the team leave early, but not everyone.

How much is not enough for a pip? I don’t have perfect attendance so I’m worried about it.

Currently on a pip for not spending enough time in office. They are watching swipes in and out. Even internally the rules have been updated to state that full days in office are required during your in office weeks.

You must be one of the lucky ones where you’re allowed to use doors that don’t require a badge swipe to operate. Most locations track when you get in and when you leave.

He is coming in late/missing days because he is interviewing at other firms.

"If managers don’t even have to come in, why would others be let go for it?"

You should know by now this is a "do as I say, not as I do" culture.

Can’t speak for you manager but the data is all there on badge swipes at this point they can do whatever they want with that data including firing with cause if they see people not complying in whatever standard they choose. That was pretty evident in some peoples bonuses get nuked because of non compliance.
