Now G.J. rolls in his crypt as to what has become of his beloved State Farm. It hurts his soul to see the greed, arrogance and stupidity that leads the company to its destruction. The loss of moral compass is destroying State Farm.

@16r spot on. When I started my career in a field CSO i had 5 agents whose polices I handled claims for. Some of the agents were easy going, some a giant pain in the a$$. But over the years we developed mutual respect for what we each did. Then came FCC and ACC and the start of our call center mentality and loss of claims professionalism. Here we are 30 years later, and I do not know a single agent personally any more for claims my team handles. They don't know me either and when I talk to them, I am apologizing for the lousy and unprofessional service they get and reaching out to multiple resources to try and get things back on track. We are talking about world class service and trying to provide it with employees in claims that came straight from the McDonalds fry cooker with zero understanding of our policy and procedures or any type of social or customer service skills.
Agency has always made more money than claims and has always looked down on claims. If you're not in leadership you understand. Only leadership doesn't understand. That's how far they are from reality.
I am retired claims. Have never understood the animosity, other than ignorance, so many claims people have with agency. Claims, UW, and Agency, the 3 that made State Farm number 1. The main issue, I see is that all 3 that knew each other and worked together are now call center voices with no personal relationships. For a business built on relationships, the current model doesn’t appear to be working.

Why is everyone ripping on agents? There are literally hundreds of agency openings available right now, come get the easy money, oh right, that takes a set of ba--s.

"ditch digger" are you 90 years old? They are called operating engineers in this century Mr. Burns and they make north of 6 figures easily. If they make a mistake people can die and cause millions in damage. If an agent makes a mistake they just cry to their AE till they get their way. I don't NEED an agent to buy insurance I NEED the water in the field behind my house to drain so my basement doesn't flood and the farmer needs it so he can plant his field to make a living. Don't over value your worth. OnlyF-ns wh--es make a lot of money too.
@ra+1….Many agents left claims for a better opportunity-not because we couldn’t hack it. Claims is hard. Agency is much harder. But you get to create it your own way ( if you make the cut before going broke). It is much riskier but can be much more rewarding. If it was actually so easy and so lucrative, you’d be doing it instead of envying those who do.
So if there is a LOSS.....will all those wonderful employees receive a BONUS!!
Same is true with being an adjuster. They should make 200K a year...the same as an agent.
Ditch diggers work extremely hard also, why don’t they make $300-400k per year? Not everyone has the skill set to succeed in agency, it is not as easy as it appears.
Well the financial results for 2024 will be rolling out soon and it wouldnt surprise me to see another 14 BILLION dollar underwriting loss. This would be 42 BILLION in the last 3 years.
I've worked in claims with agents. All of them have agreed claims is the hardest job in the company. Most of the agents I knew who left claims couldn't hack it. The problem withing SF is the pay is NOT commensurate with job function. As you go up the food chain (they all say they work harder) the actual time working is less and more political. Eliminate the politicians and reward the work. Don't let agents BS you they work so hard.

Hey premium boy! Take my insurance bill, invest it, and I could build an entire house 10× over. It's what's not said by you that lines your pockets. How about agents come down to earth like all off us and take a cut off their big six digit incomes. If you believe in the policyholder, take the cut.
Midwest agent here, the last five years have been one cat after another. Until we come to Jesus and require acv on roof and siding due to wind and hail damage you can expect 10-20% annual premium increases. No one puts a roof on a home just because it’s life is over, why would they, just wait for a weather event and let the insurance company put a new one on for you. It’s straight insanity to keep offering replacement for these weather events. And for the record,no one really cares if we are 1,2 or3 as far as size.
I give Progressive 2 maybe 3 years and they will be #1 Auto insurer in the US. Their data, rating models, and pricing is better than SF. I still find it odd, living in the Midwest accident free for decades and my auto and homeowners premiums continue to go up. People are getting tired of paying premiums for those that live in high weather incidents and populations areas like California, Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. I guess #2 doesn’t sound that bad
Our education system su-ks today. It has produced nothing but a bunch of elitist brats who believe they are entitled because they have letters behind their name. The days of them being catered to by the working class are over. Go play your golf. You will no longer afford the green fees to pay for the dude that mows the lawn. We're back!
The only thing I really miss at SF is the customer. GJ was the reason I came to SF. SF now is all about me and to heck with you for both the internal and external customers. The company has long lost its mission and vision starting in the early 90s when they hired just to fill bodies in chairs instead of competency. It is a repeat and gets worse every time unless they go back to basics and common sense. This will only happen if we don't buy into what the MBAs push. There are many people who do not have advanced degrees, CPCU, etc but have the common sense and work ethic to generate great goals.
@b1 the only thing we lead in is how to lose billions of dollars when we grow and eek out a small profit when we lose policies. Meanwhile our competition, Progressive grows multiples of our best growth years and with profit. Something we never see to be able to do, growth with profit.
GJ would not be proud. Anyone who believes the quality of both leadership and associates is the same as when the company was founded is gravely mistaken. Adverse behaviors and policies have consequences. Failure to recognize this has consequences as well.
State Farm is still the leader in the industry...I think he'd be pretty damn proud
