Everyone I know is told to be back 4-days per week. Are there any Remote workers left? What if you live 100 miles from the nearest office?

@2a4+1jjwawqhs you are so fun! You are right, no one works 8 hours a day everyday, be it at home or in the office. But when they force you to come to the office and talk about you as a "cost" to cut, the desire of prolonging those coffee breaks and chitchat is very very strong. Btw this RTO spreed doesn't exists if not in the minds of some CEOs in the US that hired too much during COVID and are now trying to make the workplace an uncomfortable place so that people will leave by themselves (for AIG is different, we were very big but have now sold everything, and our structure is probably still too large). Declaring massive layoffs means that you are admitting that your company is going super bad and no one wants that..
In Europe there is no urge to go back to office, there were some rumors but it all ended there, AIG is already struggling to hire new people due to his bad reputation, they are massively investing in young graduates because they are cheap (but they will just leave the company after 2/3 years), they can't remove WFH just like that even if they wanted to
That is 100% the RC CFO lurking on the sub they are huge pushers for 5 days in the office.
Just stating facts of what me and a lot of others do in the office (and don’t tell me about work ethics or any other bs). The work gets done. And btw, say hello to Lumbergh for me!
@2a4+1jjwawqhs do you at least come in through the side door so Lumbergh won't see you?
Even in the office, I get there at let’s say 9 and then go to the bathroom. Freshen up, go to my cube, turn on laptop, etc and at like 9:30 go make coffee. Chit chat w/ coworkers until 10. Attend my 10am meeting, until 11 & then complain w/ coworkers about the meeting, until like 11:45. Answer a few emails and then at noon go for 90 min lunch. 1:30, get back and go to bathroom to brush teeth & freshen up. Attend my 2pm meeting which usually overruns to 3:15. Back to pantry to make coffee and more chit chat. Back to my cube and from 3:30 to 4:45 I’m on hyper speed - answer emails, return phone calls, update spreadsheets, update data, assist co-workers, etc. At 4:45, need to get ready to go home and leave office at 5 (ok sometimes I leave at 5:15 if I’m engaged in conversation w/ a coworker).
Same stuff if I’m home or in the office, makes no difference.
You do realize much of the office space was planned as one work station for multiple people using a hybrid schedule?
People with a poor work ethic take advantage whether in the office or at home.
People with a good work ethic tend to work more remote. Some of the time saved from commute goes back to the Company.
Hire the right people and hybrid is best. Collaboration and ability to focus plus some flexibility.
Hire people with no work ethic and the company loses either way.
Honestly think about it from a business standpoint only. They are paying rent/utilities/insurance on buildings that sit basically empty more than half the time due remote or hybrid workers. Lets be honest as a remote or hybrid worker, are you doing laundry, have the TV on, taking care of dependents, running errands in the middle of the day, taking a nap-the list goes on. The company loses money on remote or hybrid employees. Don’t complain about work/life balance-that’s what the weekend and evenings are for. From a business standpoint only it makes perfect sense to have people in office.
Yes, as a worker it su-ks for us. We have more expenses going to the office, clothing, transportation etc. Our options are limited, so we can su-k it up or look for a different job!
Most not all claims were outsourced. AIG still has Federal Defense Based, Complex MCU and TPA oversight claims departments.
We are all anxiously awaiting the rto mandate.
Even if your office has closed, they are just arbitrarily assigning you to another office regardless of its location or additional taxes and costs to get there.
Do we still have a claims department? I thought most of claims had been outsourced?
I'm still 3 days a week, but been told we will go to 4 days soon.
Petey is looking to exit all remote workers in the US. If you aren’t remote but live far from the office, you better be back in the office. He needs more savings to hit his #1 2025 goal and this is a lever he will be using to obtain savings towards that goal
We are still pending our rto mandate in claims that will selectively affect some but not all. It is not consistent nor fair how it is being rolled out in my area. Some will have the privilege to remain remote because there is no office near them or because of how they were hired.
Apparently this is happening only in America, the RTO madness didn't affect Europe e.g. yet
