The problem with alienating so many good employees is the quality of the new folks who the rest of us then have to deal with - and let me tell you, that quality is nonexistent. They are uninterested in learning anything and if they can avoid work, they will. We have to work twice as hard because they don't give a damn about anything, including if they'll get fired. This is what we're stuck with now.

They are a reflection of present walmart corp culture. That is where the culture comes from not just in words but actions. Out to lunch.
A lot in this thread is pure bunk. That whole thing about being handsy, total BS just for effect.
However, the part about new associates is true. Walmart has no hiring standards for store associates. You do not have to speak English; you do not have to have a high school diploma or GED; you can have a long criminal record; you can even steal from the store -AND- be caught and you can still work for Walmart. When no one else will hire you, Walmart will. I agree there’s some exceptions, but for the most part, the new associates being hired are the lower crust of humanity whose employment options are limited.
An elderly couple stood directly behind my pick cart today staring at me and saying nothing, so I continue my pick.
The woman walked up and stood directly behind me without saying a word while I was in between my cart that couldn't be moved due to the husband standing there and the open freezer door while I was picking an item, and when I took a step back not realizing she was there she went "heeeeeey" and fully put her hand on my back.
I was really taken aback by how close she was and that she touched me there and I couldn't even turn around and I was like "wooooah that's a little close" and she said "well yeah but you were in my way!" I was trying to put the item in my cart sideways when she put her elbow on my side and tried to push me out of the way.
I told her she had no right to put her hands on me and called for a manager who was passing by but now I'm regretting it.
Will anything happen? They said they would check cameras but I had to tell them where it happened when they didn't ask.
At my last store people threw 2 watermelons at me, someone jabbed me in the ribs, drivers as----ted associates, someone else got handsy with me and nothing ever happened I was actually told to not file police reports.
I left early after it happened because I was really upset, I really feel like working in retail leaves you traumatized as someone people perceive as a woman.
I'm scared every time my back is turned that someone will use it as an opportunity to touch me inappropriately or feel entitled to my person.
Will anything even be done? Can I get in trouble for telling them they have no right put their hands on me instead of just taking it? I don't feel like our safety matters at all and it's so stressful.
It's deafeating.
Truth!!
