Young people don’t want to work here

Many articles and evidence young people don’t want to work in oil and gas. Senior leadership continues to try recruit from the wrong schools. Go to where there are conservative students who understand oil and gas and the value it provides. Hire people who want to work here rather than trying to entice some fancy school graduate who will just resign after a couple of years.

We already are recruiting from Tier 3 colleges. Look at where your current VPs, Chiefs, Sr Principals bachelor’s degree are from - and then look at your Supervisor’s bachelor’s degree.

We used to recruit from top universities like Stanford — now we go to Stamford. Used to go to UT , we still go to UT - except previously it was in Austin and this one is in Tennessee. We still recruit from A&M, instead of College Station, now it’s in Kingsville. Instead of Baton Rouge for Louisiana, I go to Lafayette.

The technical quality of people is down, but arrogance is up. It’s a disaster in slow motion.

Maybe management should try holding on to us a little harder. Might be harder to replace us than they think.

Meet the Young People Working for the World's Most Evil Companies
"I used to tell my niece I worked in a chocolate factory, because I would come home covered in oil."

Answering the question of what you do for work is just draining. Who wants to be reminded of their inbox, the sad Tupperware lunch from Tuesday or the latest brain-numbing lingo handed down from corporate? But for others who work in controversial – arguably unethical – industries like fossil fuels, tobacco and nuclear arms, this question can be deeply uncomfortable to answer, and can leave the listener wishing they’d never asked in the first place.

Young people don't want to work for oil companies

The bright minds of tomorrow want to pursue careers at Tesla, not ExxonMobil.
Sixty-two percent of teens ages 16 to 19 say a career in oil and gas is unappealing, according to a survey of 1,200 young Americans that was released this week by EY. That includes 39% who say the industry is very unappealing.

Feeling is accelerating. Below is an article from 2017 before all the current attrition problems.
