I was laid off last summer, and after more than six months of active job searching, I still haven’t had any luck. I’ve applied to every possible job, leveraged the network I’ve built over the years, reached out to numerous contacts and companies—but still nothing. I’ve been considering taking a completely different approach, applying for roles outside the scope of my previous work. I'm unsure which industries or organizations might be open to considering our resumes. Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Literally just heard in a retail store yesterday someone in front of me was a sweet grandma checking out and she asked the employee who was standing there with her manager how her grandson can follow up on his application…he literally was like “old school way, have him come up here, ask to speak to a manager and tell us he submitted an application and wanted to follow up on it…if we like him we’ll set up an interview with him”. If you’re desperate enough for some of the lower hanging fruit jobs - that might be a good idea!
I truly don’t understand posts like this…I already have it planned: I would be working a server job at a IHOP down the street the week after my layoff (they’re always hiring) all while still applying for jobs. I would leverage whatever skills I have and start a consulting “business” on the side for my linked in - who cares if I don’t get clients, I don’t want that gap on my resume. I would of course ultimately want remote, but you still got to make money! Keep building back up. Maybe after the serving job, I’d take an in person local job wherever I could, again, ultimately still applying for remote jobs back to what I was making. It’s not like you can’t apply to jobs after your full time job. How the he-l are you living without money?
I applied for a fast food job the week after being laid off, taking over a 56% pay cut. It took two months to find another job in the area I wanted that was a 25% pay cut.
