Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Malaise and apathy

It’s everywhere. The whole company has quietly quit. Good luck getting an email returned or call answered - particularly from any support function.

I’ve been through a lot of these at this point in my career, and I’ve never seen it quite this bad…and it’s just starting…

Asking us to waste time at the beginning of the year to do year planning is beyond stupid when everyone knows there’s a big surprise coming sometime around mid year that will turn everything on its head and make any plans useless

I haven't noticed this to be honest, the folks I work with have been excellent as usual, it's the year planning that is broken, radio silence from the top, must be really busy, which is concerning....

Just give it a couple months… it’ll age like roadkill on a Houston highway in the midst of summer

Noble here. This reminds me of when they announced the acquisition. The month leading up to it was total apathy. This feels rather similar, and so much longer to go…

Apathy is correct OP. You’re right and it’s just starting. Wait till people see the number of positions reduced in their teams when they have to apply for their jobs. Individual contributors will probably see the job numbers in August. 30% reductions will be an eye opener. The Return to Office mandate during a ROM year is another factor. People are zombies right now. Oh well…

I have been at Chevron 14 years and this is my 4th ROM. The other ones were less impactful. This one will be much deeper cutting since they are off shoring the jobs to India. The Field Engineers will eventually lose 80 to 90% of the global staff. Chevron is centralizing the job role in “ The Engine”.
The company will continue to eliminate US employees to the point where very few positions will exist in the US. I believe they are laying off people before the transition can be efficiently completed. But that’s the decision of the executives. God speed!

How are you going to feel as an engineer or a geologist that is going to be replaced by a cheap person in India and be laid off? An American Company should protect American workers

22 and it's my 10th or so since I started in Downstream. Has always led to an opportunity. Keeps thing fresh. Don't be the one NOT responding to e-mails, you'll be on someone's list fast. Be smart. All other IOC's laying off.

How many have you been through in your career? How many years have you been working for Chevron?
