Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Hate hearing people were laid off!!

Are they at least offering those laid off any type of severance? That is terrible.

I will only get 2 weeks of this supplimental BS. I have never been treated this horrible leaving a company. They are doing this now to try to make Trump look bad coming in.

Do they still require signing a NDA? I had a lawyer look this over when I was let go - the part about requiring ex-employees to assist Windstream as needed and only being reimbursed on expenses had the Lawyer retorting that slavery had been abolished in the US. Thus the entire NDA was as strong as wet TP
When I had to sign, it was to get my severance (though the exit documentation also tried to dispel this notion and use of leverage to get you to sign).
Since severance has now been ghosted for most - are NDAs still being pushed?
Also, are let go employees still being converted to consultants?

Hi Former Windstream employee. Laid off last May. Here is some helpful tips if you get your notice. First off the process of claiming unemployment and your supplemental income can be overwhelming. There is a lot of legal documents Windstream will send you. Read the documents thoroughly before signing. First off ship back any equipment if you worked remote. They will send you a box and return return label. You have to sign up for unemployment first before signing up for your supplemental income. Once that's done you then sign up with a third party handling the supplemental payment. Whatever unemployment doesn't pay you Windstream will pay the difference to match your salary. You will get any unpaid vacation time along with any other time you're due in your last paycheck. Do not mention you are receiving vacation pay! Repeat do not mention you were receiving vacation pay when applying for unemployment. This is also mentioned in the documents from Windstream. Windstream will pay 3 months of supplemental income. You collect both unemployment and its supplemental income. You can collect unemployment up to 6 months. Each state may have different unemployment rules and regulations. The best thing you can do for yourselves, is research the Windstream supplemental pay so you have an idea of what to do when you're laid off. I hope this information was helpful. Good luck!

Basically it works like this. You'll get X amount of week supplemental income. However this requires you to file for unemployment. The supplemental income is supposed to cover the difference between what your state benefits pay and your current weekly wages.
The trick is, in most states, your vacation/personal days payout counts as income. This meaning for a few weeks you won't get the unemployment benefit, which means the supplemental income won't kick in until the unemployment benefits do.
If you are lucky enough to land a job before your number of weeks end, the insurance only pays out 30% of the remaining balance. So if you've got three weeks left of benefit, you're only getting one week paid.
And that would be the case even if the job is paying less than what you were making before.
The whole thing is designed to have Windstream pay as little as possible. Preferably not even the 12 or so weeks you're due.
In some states, the sub pay counts as income, so poof goes your state benefits while you get sub pay.

Folks, the writing has been on the wall for months. If you haven't researched your submental pay, you should. No one is "safe. " Do yourself a favor and find out your Windstream benefits so you know what to except. Windstream will pay a supplemental income for 3 months a long with unemployment. Whatever unemployment doesn't pay,,Windstream pays the rest to match your salary. If you know someone already laid off, reach out to them for the details. Layoffs are going to continue all year.

Good luck with supplemental unemployment if you live in Florida. The Florida unemployment system is designed to be unusable so you won't get the windstream supplemental.

How does the “supplemental unemployment” work?

Nope! Supplemental unemployment if you can meet all the weekly hurdles.
