Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How’s your India engineering business unit doing?

The very large oil company that I work for near 800 Bell with two buildings is spinning up a whole new engineering center in Bangalore near yours. How did it all work out with you? And yeah laying off a ton of people in the USA.

My team is spending all their time eating stinky curry and doing Stanky Ho-s. Other than that, they are doing an excellent job for the wages (bowl of rice and curry) that we pay them in India.

You better have some experienced checkers reviewing engineering work from Bangalore.

You catch simple things like carbon steel T in pure O2 piping. If such mistakes get through your system, mass fatalities could result.

Review everything, even things you think a child could not mess up.

PS. The hourly rate looks great on estimates, but when a 1 hour task takes 17 hours including rework, the net effect costs more than doing the work elsewhere.

It’s great if you like crayon engineers and spend your “extra” time cleaning up their mistakes.

You’ll probably find out partly as some of our people move to your new facility seeking a raise for jumping ship.
