Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Hang in there

Engine will fail.

No one in India knows Chevron. We don’t sell anything in India.

Shell has 10,000 gas stations in India. They have been in India for decades.

Mobil 1 is a top brand in India. They are in India since 1980.

BP has Castell brand and gas stations in India.

Imagine you are new grad out of top school - why would you join Chevron? It’s like graduating from college here and being recruited by Adani.

WTF is Adani ? Only the richest Indian company, but you have no clue.

In India, brand matters. If you have to explain to your family what Chevron is, the family laughs at you, asking “why, you didn’t get a job in any nice company that you got job in this Cheapron?”

Also, then you will never get good boy or girl to marry because you work for no-brand company.

It doesn’t help if on top you pay tiny amount and have no office. You will attract the C-grade college students and experienced hires who failed at other companies.

Of course, we still went about this venture and we will claim it to be successful. Yet another wastage of $Billions. Bunch of id--ts - we are

I hear people to hang in there because The Engine will fail but the decision has already been made and a large number of USA jobs will be eliminated and moved to India. By the time they figure out the idea didn’t work thousands of jobs in the USA will be lost. The best thing people can do is learn as much as possible and if you lose your job find another job. Better to be prepared, than just scared!

“ If not… sell all your CVX stock before the end of 2025”

Totally agree. 2025 may be decent if FGP and Hess go well. But after that there is no growth at all.

Engine will be the training center for all other existing and established Indian O&G operations.

Whether the work goes to ENGINE or to AI, Chevron still needs SMEs to review and validate and quality control. Hopefully upper management realizes this and those of us with extensive experience and expertise in our domains are kept around.

I agree completely, this initiative is set to fail miserably, however the real danger is that such failure will also accelerate the OTHER transition to full blown AI workflows that may replace 30-40 (50?) ? Of current workforce.
So, in a way or another, we are ph---d

Executives will all get bonuses for this, and in five years those who remain will go through it all again when the new executive shuts it all down because it was a disaster. And gets bonuses for that, of course.

It will fail and they will correct their mistake by bringing it all back here!

If there’s anything Chevron people should know, it’s that our projects end up over budget, overdue, and realize less value than projected. ENGINE will be no different.

It’ll fail, but not for 5 years. At which point they’ll jazz hands while sweeping it under the rug

100% correct. And a shame that senior leaders won’t listen to people who are good with strategy and can foresee this happening.
