Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Don’t relocate for a position

I relocated for a leadership role, and I couldn’t regret it more. Despite having strong PMP results, I’ve been denied promotion the last 2 years (I’m currently not even in the psg range for the role). Now there are indications the role may be going away in the bloodletting this year. I uprooted my family in the hopes of a better opportunity. I’ve upheld my end, and then some. And now the great LT will just shake it like an etchasketch.

I’m a grown up, and knew I was taking a chance. But if I could go back, I’d give a lot more consideration my life’s bigger picture. Unless you’re dying to try out a new location, moving purely for upward trajectory is a bad idea. Also, get the promotion before you take the role.

Same here. They merged two jobs into one, lots more direct reports and responsibilities. Denied promotion two years in a row despite my boss considering my performance as “stellar”. Now I may lose part of my team because of the reorganisation, unless it’s me being kicked out.
Then they wonder why people are not happy

Got “promoted” this year to a middle management leadership role but no change in PSG. I was up for the expanded LTIP, but now with my new supervisor, I’m likely not going to be put in for one. So, long story short, I got “promoted”, have more responsibility and am working harder, but ended up losing out on ~$50k in stocks with no pay increase. SCORE!

I always want to see new places so for me it’s place which decides relocating and of course if my grown children can also come with or I can reach them quickly in case of any crisis on them
My little runaway feet have been running all over in places from LA, NY to DC to live there and see how those places are

@OP, thanks for sharing. Make sure you take that lesson to heart and share with your loved ones as they consider these kinds of decisions in life. You are nothing more than a number to these corporations. There is no allegiance towards you, and you should give none to them.

Does anyone have a sense for the EOI offer? I’m dreaming of three weeks per year. I know it’s normally two.

I hear that the letter is coming in February.

As a born and raised Californian, there are plenty of people who leave and don’t regret it. There are things I miss about it, but for my family and I leaving has been the right choice. It’s a big world out there, the Bay Area isn’t the only or best part of it.

No where else do you accept a promotion but don’t get the raise. It may wait until the next promotion cycle, but it always go through. The big difference being it doesn’t go to some secret cabal who then decides. I’ve actually worked other companies and I’ve never ever seen nonsense like this

Anyone that relocates from California will regret it

Not saying they should but this practice of working above your pay is very corporate America.

I took a gig 2 psg above me in the last pdc and I might be a year or more away from a promo.

Its a better gig and might help me keep a job but I get the frustration.

Good input on moving. It really has to be a better place broader than what Chevron can offer otherwise...

The whole “work in this role and we’ll see about promoting you when we can” is such utter nonsense. No else does this. Imagine if we did our business this way. “Sure we’ll give you more oil this year, and will just pay you for the normal amount and we’ll see how things feel next year.”

Never relocate for (promised) promotion, only for experience and fun. Especially when family is involved.

This 100%. Similar situation and if I could undo it I would without batting an eyelash.
