Or are there any rumors to the contrary?

I just learned that a long-time colleague -- a software engineer in the Surgical OU -- was laid off.
A huge wave of layoffs are coming. Brace yourself
We have an excellent contractor whose contract is not being renewed the end of April. The work is there. Makes me wonder what other cuts are going to happen at the end of the fiscal year.
Glad I left when I did, with my "early retirement" in 2023... wonder how many times my former team has now been worried since then - since IT often gets impacted!
I don’t see them happening before spring. Did you think we would move with speed and decisiveness?
April 17th = Spring
Define spring.
Still running over budget and profit is down so….
It’s happening. I know a few people who have been impacted this week.
There are only supposed to be two times per year when layoffs happen, to prevent giving the impression that layoffs are constant (which they are at Medtronic). The last quarter of the FY is traditionally a time for re-orgs and right-sizing and making tough decisions. With the stock barely in the $80 range we have to cost cut to stay in the game, yet the cuts have already gone too far. We need new leadership and radical divestment to be taken seriously as a valid med tech competitor.
It’s always layoff season at Medtronic. Big layoffs that everyone knows about and small layoffs that no one outside of the affected group knows about.
No rumors, but keep your resume updated.
