A Need to Unionize

Chevron U.S. engineers need to unionize now more than ever, or this mess will continue to happen.

Coordinate with USW. Establish salters within the main refineries and get the train rolling.

Leadership has already admitted these reorgs will now be more frequent and amplified, so if you want to going though these messes, by all means, don’t unionize.

If you want career stability, now is the time.

It doesn't matter if your jobs are unionized or not if they've elected to sell or cede operatorship on the asset. There's no work for you to do (this is part of the challenge Chevron has right now after walking from a few concessions and selling some assets).

More generally. You lack leverage. Most of the people at Chevron don't add value. And, choice strategic partnerships can replace those that do real work.

As an example, if the midcon D&C or facilities engineers were to go on strike... Chevron can easily take farm-ins and allow another company to operate said acreage. Chevron would gain the benefit of 20% cheaper gross capital costs to-boot.

How’s it working out now? Every time a reorg occurs now, there will be fewer and fewer jobs for U.S. based employees.

Why would I care about the health of a company when I or my co workers are losing their jobs or not growing their careers? Here’s the answer: I wouldn’t.

Offshoring/layoffs are a losers response to lack of competitiveness.

Chevron is already shifting exposure to OBO/Nonop because their operations are not cost competitive.

Your solution is to fight them on regaining competitiveness? Let's see how that works out for you.

As long as equilibrium exists and the company gets the profit it needs and the workers get the pay / benefits they need, there’s minimal discord. Once the company decides it wants “the whole pie”, the social contract is broken and nothing is left but a soulless shell of a company. Pretty similar model to VC firms.
