After a bad experience at BBBY and before that in other retail companies, I really want to leave retail and find a job in another industry. Any tips on how to get out of retail? Does anyone who has escaped this industry have an experience to share?

Depending on your experience you can find many different level/roles in sales both inside or outside sales for local manufacturing companies. Thats what I did and I've never been happier. Pays wayyyy better too.
I went from management to starting my own in-home childcare business. I manage little people now. It's amazing how much knowledge I use that I learned while working for BBB.
You don't indicate WHAT your experience is. Management is really tough to get on managing in another industry except just as cr---y fast food.
People at 53 were mostly good, but some selfish and lazy. I had more fun talking to customers.
Retail (store-based) does not pay well and is not as stable as your typical salary office job but it is definitely more fun. Lots of people have worked in retail years and years. You can work and then at the end of your shift, shop for groceries at employee discount and then go home and not leave your house again for a long time. It does have its perks. You generally work with a lot of nice people too.
Amazon is not as bad as the media says. I left that horrible place 7 years ago.
Go to a warehouse.
