Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Happy New Year, everyone.

To those covering for those laid off: it will be a tough year, working hard to keep the boat afloat and with constant fear of another (inevitable?) round of layoffs.

To those who lost their jobs through VRP and "surgical restructuring of the organization" and keep reading this forum: your life will probably be easier once you get a new job at a better company where management promises align with day-to-day conduct. It will be refreshing to work for leaders who don't lie and try to convince you that the iceberg ahead can't sink the ship.

To the senior leaders: I can only imagine how hard it must be for decent people like you to pretend that you are keeping honesty as a personal value.

To the shareholders (especially the former Inmarsat owners) who have lost a lot of money: June will come, and you will finally have the opportunity to take full control, fire Gooroo and MD, put Rajeev S. in control, and try to save the day.

2025 will see a further decline in the outlook: maritime will continue its path to irrelevance (save for Inmarsat safety services), business aviation will keep falling as competition improves the support model, energy may find a buyer, commercial aviation will see more customers going to Starlink or Kuiper (my bet is THE large Asian-based airline and another US airline, after United). Domestic aviation does not deserve mention.

Ah, the classic delusion of grandeur from the London contingent—like the monarchy, all pomp and no real power. It’s endearing, really, watching a group so proudly irrelevant cling to a fading narrative of superiority while the ship they’re on takes on water. If only they channeled half that energy into competence instead of making things harder for the rest of us.

Well given Carlsbad salaries are circa 3 times for the same role in the UK…and the majority at L1 and L2 are legacy Viasat clowns…and the current issues are those incubated under legacy Viasat, I can’t wait for the Inmarsat board members to take a scalpel to our executive so-called leadership after June

June (or more specifically 2 years after the Inmarsat close) is when certain constraints on the incoming Inmarsat directors expire and they can vote or otherwise assert more control over the company direction. There is probably a finer legal explanation involved, but in joining the board at acquisition they were constrained from taking certain actions for two years. It's a common protection mechanism for the acquirer during acquisitions. I'm am quite certain the Inmarsat directors are far more attuned to equity stewardship than legacy Viasat executives. Much value has been destroyed under MD's guidance, not clear there is much to be saved at this point. The deal closed end of May 2023 at about $37, as representatives for the Inmarsat equity holders the Inmarsat directors may be compelled to act.

I love waking up New Year's Day to another one of your rants! Viasat's a great place to work; we just gotta deal with those useless, lazy, untrustable European "colleagues," starting from the clowns at the top and down the org chart. Once we're rid of them, we'll be golden. You didn't mention the government contracts – big money coming in there. And what's the deal with domestic aviation?
