Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

All of Pat's failures

Great hopes when Pat took over, but it's been pretty abysmal since.

  • Implement OKRs, but tie it to compensation, which is specifically warned against and counter productive.
  • Hasn't gotten rid of the 'insights' woke review methodology.
  • Still focusing on hiring and promoting based on demographics rather than competence, and rewarding teams based on demographics.
  • Still letting seasoned engineers get sucked up by competitors, and when challenged by it says "go apply somewhere else" if you want a raise.
  • Still using 3% as the "successful" raise at focal, while inflation is through the roof. Then they give us all this stock which even in April was clear it would be worthless before it vested.

And they wonder why we can't execute on new technologies. But hey, at least we have a good ESG score, right? Surely that's more important than running a successful company.

Reposted from @otm+1jbc241c, he said it perfectly.

Pat started in the middle of pandemic. Even if he wanted to make changes it would have been horrible optics laying off people during pandemic. Lots of the product delays/uncompetitivness were already embedded in the road map. He could have done very little to influence 10nm.

Sure, he could have hired more capable generals. But this is a 80 ton ship that takes time to steer.

Afterall, he also got us the lifeline (chip act) subsidies from congress which will set us up for long term success.

Let's revisit this in 2024. If the company is in the same situation then this is all on Pat.

I agree with all of the stated points. OKR's are a waste of time and an exercise in futility. I've heard from factory management that they're worried about people leaving, but here they are about to fire people. For some reason they think people will come back. HA!!!

It takes 4 years for Intel to execute on a plan?

Ge-z.

No wonder the competition is eating our lunch.
So much for ‘torrid’

You have to give Pat time. A lot of issues to resolve from his predecessors. If we are not on track on road map execution by 2024 then we are in big trouble

Hate diversity .. so called reservation in Asian countries- reservation in school, college, jobs and promotions

In US nice name called “diversity “ VP ( women) have target to promote diversity candidates and take away promotion from white or Asian ppl

Intel /Pat wake up fire those VP who do reservations. Hire a 3rd or 4th class engineer and expect execution efficiency?
