Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Woke Talk

You have probably seen the push for woke talk at VMware. The other day at the start of the marketing summit a woman comes on and starts lecturing about using "inclusive language". If you go on the internal websites you will seen an announcement about fixing the language. The things that they talk about fixing are technical terms in long term usage by information technology people across the industry. This is being done by HR people who don't use this terminology. They don't know the products. They are not IT people. They don't know the history. They are forcing a change of language that is used by hands on IT admistrators. They are forcing their will upon another culture that they are not a part of. Soon they will have VMware using terminology that is not common across the industry. VMware people will be using their own woke talk and when they go to conferences and the like, they will be speaking a language that is alien to the other people there. When they change jobs the same will happen. VMware is creating its own little woke culture. We need the plague of wokists to end.

"technical terms in long term usage by information technology people"

Like what? Give examples.

Terms change over time. We've moved aware from whitelist, blacklist, master, slave, etc. And for good reason.

What exact terms are you referring to that is being pushed internally that is not known outside?

Mashed, baby. 🥔 Have to ask HR if that's acceptable first though.

Exactly why a stochastic approach to inclusion doesn’t work. Puts the burden of failed policy, poor leadership on followers.

The movement is in the pods when it should be embedded in the culture and the executive team.

Create 1000 different potato pods if you want to. The needle won’t move. Only the optics will.

"There is no swifter route to the corruption of thought than through the corruption of language" -George Orwell

Such fluff will not exist at broadcom. It will simply not be tolerated. So even the darkest cloud has a silver lining.

I wish I had the words for a reply, but I checked with the corporate and I am not allowed to use any of them.
